KING Charles' coronation puts the spotlight on the Royal Family.

The King will travel to the coronation ceremony with wife Camilla, but who else will be in the procession?

Who is in the coronation procession from Buckingham Palace?

On the morning of May 6, 2023, King Charles and Queen Camilla will make their way from Buckingham Palace in The King’s Procession to Westminster Abbey for the coronation in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach.

The coach was created for Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Her late Majesty’s reign in 2012.

The procession will leave Buckingham Palace at 10.20am ahead of the coronation service at Westminster Abbey, which begins at 11am and finishes at 1pm.

The King’s Guard will give a Royal Salute as the King and Queen leave the Palace forecourt.

The King's Procession will be led by Mounted Band of the Household Cavalry, followed by the 1st and 2nd Division of The Sovereign’s Escort.

The King and Queen will follow, with the Escort Commander, Field Officer of the Escort, Standard Coverer, Sovereign’s Standard
of the Household Cavalry and Trumpeter behind.

Bringing up the rear is the 3rd and 4th Division of The Sovereign’s Escort, and State Car.

The King's Procession will be flanked by over 1,000 Armed Forces route liners from all three Services and Standard Bearers of the Royal British Legion, Uniformed Civilian Services and Community Organisations.

Who is in the coronation procession inside Westminster Abbey?

The service at the Abbey begins at 11am.

The first processions into the Abbey will be made up of faith leaders and faith representatives, followed shortly afterwards by representatives from His Majesty’s Realms.

Flags for each realm will be carried by national representatives, which means that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, will walk behind Cadet Warrant Officer Elliott Tyson-Lee, who will carry the UK flag.

Next the choirs will process into the Abbey.

After them will be the procession of the King and Queen, which will be led by the Marquess of Anglesey, the Duke of Westminster, the Earl of Caledon and Scottish peer and Conservative politician the Earl of Dundee.

They will carry the Standards of the Quarterings of the Royal Arms and Standard of the Principality of Wales, and farmer Francis Dymoke will carry The Royal Standard.

Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, Chief of the Defence Staff, will follow and will be joined by the Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk, who is the most senior peer in Britain.

Member of the House of Lords the Earl of Erroll will be Lord High Constable of Scotland and Scottish peer the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres will act as Deputy to the Great Steward of Scotland.

Those who are involved in the coronation procession inside Westminster Abbey will be made up of people carrying royal regalia.

Those carrying the Queen's Regalia to the altar, made up of:

  • Baroness (Helena) Kennedy of The Shaws, a Scottish barrister and Labour member of the House of Lords, who will carry the Queen Consort’s Rod
  • General Sir Patrick Sanders, a senior British Army officer, carrying the Queen Consort's Sceptre
  • British peer and Conservative politician the Duke of Wellington, carrying Queen Mary’s Crown
  • Rt. Reverend and Rt. Hon the Lord Chartres, carrying the Queen Consort's Ring

Those presenting Queen Camilla's Regalia:

  • The Rt. Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin CD, The Bishop of Dover – Presenting The Queen Consort's Rod
  • The Rt. Reverend and Rt Hon. Lord Chartres – Presenting The Queen Consort's Sceptre with Cross
  • Brigadier Andrew Jackson, The Keeper of the Jewel House at HM Tower of London – Presenting The Queen Consort's Ring
