Former X-Factor contestant Mitchell Callaway has been charged over the murder of a nine-month-old baby, marking the end of a five-year police investigation.
Callaway, 37, was arrested at a home in Bowraville, on the NSW Mid North Coast hinterland, at about 9:45am on Thursday morning.
He was taken to Macksville Police Station where he was charged with murder.

On July 23, 2018, emergency services were called to a Binnaway home following reports a nine-month-old baby was unresponsive.
The little girl was rushed to Coonabarabran Hospital where she died a short time later despite the efforts of staff and paramedics.
After receiving new information, officers investigating the baby’s death executed a search warrant at a home in Binnaway, in the state’s central-west, on May 31.
Following further inquiries, detectives working under Strike Force King arrested and charged Callaway with murder on Thursday.

He has been refused bail and is due to front Macksville Local Court on Thursday.
Callaway was a contestant on season three of X-Factor Australia TV show in 2011 and placed 7th in the competition.
The former singer was booted in week six after failing to outperform fellow contestant Johnny Ruffo, who placed 3rd in the competition and went on to sign a recording contact with Sony Music Australia.
Callaway auditioned for the show with Keith Urban’s song Tonight I Wanna Cry.
