AceShowbiz –21 Savage celebrated Father’s Day in a special way. Designing an event to help children, the “Glock in My Lap” rapper and his organization Leading by Example Foundation recruited a number of NBA stars for their youth basketball camp.
On Sunday, June 18, the 30-year-old hip-hop artist along with his organization partnered up with Freedom Is a Choice Inc. to set up the basketball clinic. He, per reported by TMZ, brought in Portland Trail Blazers player Nassir Little, Orlando Magic players Jay Scrubb and Kevon Harris, NBA G League Team Ignite player London Johnson and NCAA player Flau’jae Johnson.
21 Savage asked those stars to teach basketball skills to the children who joined the camp. His event was especially established for kids at the age of 10 to 13 years old whose fathers are currently incarcerated. From his camp, which was located in his hometown Atlanta, Dekalb County, Georgia, the children are expected to improve their skills on the court.
During the camp, 21 Savage, whose real name is Sheyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, could be seen helping the athletes coach the children on the court. At one point, he was also seen signing the white tees the kids wore. The moments were documented in a video shared on Twitter by HipHopDX. In the replies section of the tweet, one user gushed over the rapper, “THATS WASSUP. SHOUTOUT 2 21 SAVAGE 4 SHOWN LOVE 2 THE CHILDREN.”
Before staging the youth basketball camp, 21 Savage opened up about his dark past. In a November 2022 interview with DJ Akademiks, the “Her Loss” artist talked about battling paranoia caused by his near-death experience. “I’m scared of everybody n****a,” he admitted. “I ain’t – I’m not f**king rambo. I’m scared of everybody. I’m scared of anybody. N***a I move scared, hell yeah I’m scared. Scared n***as stay alive.”
“‘Cause I done seen it. It ain’t like, it’s just like, I’m not one of them n***as who just – n***a I been shot n***a,” he continued. About his near-death experience, he candidly shared, “I seen my friend die, in my face, on my birthday. In the car too. It ain’t like it’s like oh we just standing on the block and a drive by happen. I’m talking bout right here n***a. He in the drivers seat, I’m in the passenger seat. Type s**t.”
