Armie Hammer Will Reportedly 'Step Away' From Jennifer Lopez Rom-Com

Late last year, Jennifer Lopez and Armie Hammer were slated to star in Shotgun Wedding, a romantic action-comedy that was supposed to start production this year. However, Page Six reports that in the wake of leaked direct messages allegedly sent between Hammer and a number of women, he will be "stepping away" from the film. TheWrap also reported that Hammer would be leaving the film

"Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision," a production spokesman told Page Six. The publication notes that Hammer took the role after Ryan Reynolds, who is serving as executive producer, turned it down. Representatives for Lopez have not issued any statements on the matter.

"I'm not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I'm grateful to them for that," Hammer said in a statement, according to Variety.

While the DMs have yet to be been verified, various social media accounts have reported that they were posted by an anonymous source, House of Effie. The messages contain explicit sexual content, mentions of rape, cannibalism, and body mutilation. Page Six adds that previous interviews with Hammer have also resurfaced, including ones where he describes himself as a "dominant lover" who enjoyed "grabbing women by the neck and hair" during sex. However, in subsequent interviews, he noted that his marriage to his now-estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers seemed to temper his sex life.

"It gets to a point where you say, 'I respect you too much to do these things that I kind of want to do,'" he told Playboy in 2013.
