Carol Kirkwood temporarily replaced by cut-out as she calls out BBC Breakfast colleague

BBC Breakfast favourite Carol Kirkwood has given fans an insight into life behind the camera. The forecaster branded her colleague “cheeky” in the chilly post, as she pictured a cut-out of herself.

Carol, 58, was updating her 203,000 Twitter followers ahead of going live this morning, as she issued a chilling weather report to the nation.

As temperatures are set to plummet to as low as -4, Carol and her team chose to broadcast from the roof of the BBC’s head office, New Broadcasting House in London.

After sharing beautiful pictures of the skyline with her fans, Carol took to her Twitter page to reveal what happens before she gets into place in front of the cameras.

In order to align Carol with the cameras, a behind-the-scenes worker on the breakfast broadcast opted to use a life-size cardboard cut out of Carol to ensure that they could get into place as quickly as possible.

Sharing the moment with her followers, Carol happily snapped a picture of the moment showing a cameraman aligning the camera to her height.

However, Carol was left feeling somewhat embarrassed, captioning her snap: “Paul what do you mean ’It’s the only way I can get you to stand still!’. Cheeky,” alongside a crying with laughter face and kissing emoji.

Her followers lapped up the funny moment, liking the post over 350 times.

“At least he can line up the camera shots while you’re still in the warm,” noted one.

While a second added: “Looking like a mermaid.”

Before a third quipped: “You look very board of waiting… [sic]”

Her post came moments before Carol warned viewers that the UK is set to face a wave of blistering cold temperatures, before things improve.

She told viewers: “Through this evening and overnight some of these showers will fade.

During a broadcast on Friday, the shows main anchor, Naga Munchetty revealed that bosses had warned there was “no weather”.

“Our output producer said today that there can be no weather and I don’t think it’s true. I think there is always weather.

“And he said there is a phenomenon where there is no weather,” she stated.

However, Carol was quick to correct her co-star, adding: “There’s always weather, there’s always going to be something; it’s going to be dry, it’s going to be wet, it’s going to be sunny.”

The Scottish born star continued: “So, I don’t think he’s right.”

After going on to complete the weather broadcast, she joked: “I’ll probably be sacked for that one.”

Carol, who has appeared on BBC Breakfast since 1999, has previously spoken of her future at the network, saying she would put up a fight if she was made to leave the BBC.

“If they showed me the door I would hang on by my fingernails.”

However, she has no plans to leave the publicly funded corporation, adding: “As long as [BBC] Breakfast wants me, I’ll be there because I love it.”
