Carrie Underwood is receiving some heat after liking an anti-mask video on Twitter.
The American Idol winner liked a video posted to Twitter by conservative blogger Matt Walsh, in which he spoke at a Nashville School Board meeting, condemning the mask mandate for children.
During the video, Walsh likened the mask mandate to child abuse. "What if a parent forced his kid to wear a football helmet all day every day, for fear of falling coconuts and meteors? If you saw that, you would say he's abusive," he stated during the speech, as other parents applauded.
He went on to insist that Covid posed "almost no risk to our kids at all," despite the rise in cases and deaths as the Delta Variant runs rampant. In the past week alone, Tennessee has reported more than 31,000 cases and 135 new deaths, according to John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.
Nashville's Fox 17 News recently reported that cases among school-aged children in the state are up 950% this month, with over 9,000 children testing positive for the virus in the past 14 days.
Twitter users and fans expressed their disappointment in the "Before He Cheats" singer. One user wrote, "It's not just that Carrie Underwood liked an anti-mask tweet. It's that Carrie Underwood liked an anti-mask tweet from Matt Walsh, one of those most negligently histrionic voices on the topic of protecting kids from COVID."
