Charles not seeing his grandkids on his Coronation is a ‘shame’, says royal expert

Following the long-awaited confirmation that the Duke of Sussex will travel to the UK for King Charles' Coronation on May 6, it was announced that the Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with the couple's two young children.

The official statement read: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Despite His Majesty's hugely busy schedule as the countdown to his Coronation enters the final weeks, one royal expert has claimed King Charles will be saddened by the fact he will miss out on seeing his grandchildren.

Speaking to OK!, royal commentator Jennie Bond said: "I realise Charles will be very, very busy over the coronation period.

"But it's still a shame that he won't be given this opportunity to see his grandchildren, because that might have been a very, very lovely treat for him."

Referring to Prince Harry's acceptance of the invitation, Jennie explained: "Now that we know that he's coming, I'm very glad that he is coming to what is probably the most important day in his father's life – it would have been churlish not to do so.

"I think this was always the best compromise, particularly given that Archie's fourth birthday that he should come and Meghan should not."

The King has had very few personal meetings with his Sussex grandchildren, with a Clarence House source explaining that he had a “very emotional” meeting with Archie and Lilibet around the time of the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Back in June, the senior royal source revealed: “It was fantastic to see [Harry and Meghan]. It was wonderful to have them back in Britain. The Prince and the Duchess were absolutely thrilled to see them.

“The prince, of course, hasn’t seen his grandson Archie for a bit of time and so it was very, very, very special to have some time with him. He hadn’t met Lili, his granddaughter, and so to meet her was very emotional, a very, very wonderful thing.”
