Coleen Nolan's pop star son 'living off universal credit in her garage'

Coleen Nolan’s pop star son, Jake Roche, has revealed he is living in his mum’s garage and is currently on universal credit.

Jake broke into the entertainment industry when he starred in ITV soap Emmerdale for several months as Isaac Nuttal in 2010.

But, his big rise to fame came as the lead vocalist of the band Rixton (now called Push Baby), with their single Me and My Broken Heart charting at number one in 2014.

While pop and R&B group continues to release music under Scooter Braun’s record label, SB Projects, Jake has confessed that he feels like a ‘failure.’

Jake – whose dad is EastEnders legend Shane Richie – has set up home in the Loose Women star’s garage amid the cost of living crisis, which has caused him to halt his career in performing.

When asked by a follower on TikTok what he’s up to these days, the 30-year-old, who was once engaged to ex-Little Mix member Jesy Nelson, got candid.

As reported by the Mirror, Jake replied: ‘I’m on Universal Credit, and I live with my mum in her garage. I’m a failure.’

However, the fan was quick to offer words of comfort, responding: ‘Firstly I’d like to say you are not a failure. Everyone goes through hardships in life and you will get through yours.’

Jake smiled before saying: ‘Thank you, you are a legend.’

Having worked in entertainment since a young age, Jake has acquired quite the impressive CV, with acting roles in the BBC musical film Rules of Love and ITV cop drama Scott and Bailey.

With regards to his Emmerdale stint, he was adamant that being the son of ‘Alfie Moon’ wasn’t the reason he was cast.

He said in the past: ‘When I was auditioning, they didn’t know who my parents were and I’d also auditioned twice before, so they obviously didn’t care about that or they wouldn’t have turned me down.’

Presenter mum Coleen is very open about her love for her kids on when on the Loose Women panel, as well as on social media.

Earlier this year, she promoted Push Baby’s gig on her Instagram page, when they performed at Gullivers to fundraise for Women’s Aid.

Then last month, for Jake’s 30th birthday, she shared a sweet snap from their family celebrations.

‘What a great day with close family and friends for my boys 30th yesterday… ❤️’, Coleen wrote, alongside a smiley group snap from her garden.
