Danniella Westbrook has opened up on her recent snub from reprising the EastEnders character Sam Mitchell.
The 48 year old, who recently said she was ready for her "transformation" with surgery, explained that she's glad the BBC soap is bringing the role back in an exclusive chat with OK! Online on the red carpet of the SX Events Launch Party on Thursday 17 February.
Looking gorgeous in an all black ensemble, including a pair of leather trousers, black top and blazer, the blonde star told us: "I'm happy they're bringing the character back. I'm glad they're bringing it in a different direction because Kim is a different sound to me."
Daniella went on to share that due to the operations she's going through, she wouldn't have been able to take on the role once again anyway.
In December 2021, the star was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after doctor's were concerned over a sinus infection that antibiotics did not help with. She shared: "Obviously I'm going through a lot of operations at the moment so I wouldn't have gone back anyway."
Despite this, the TV personality said she does have some projects in the pipeline as she's working on a documentary about cocaine and is even plotting her return to screens with another soap.
Danniella, who recently enjoyed some retail therapy following her EastEnders snub, added: "My sights are set on other soaps, let's leave it there. Maybe do another soap opera…"
Kim Medcalf, 48, took over from Daniella from 2002 until 2005 to play the role of Sam on EastEnders and will be reprising the role.
After hearing of these reports, Danniella tweeted: "Well well well who knew (three laughing face emojis) all I can say is thanks looks like I dodged a bullet.

Since then, a source has told OK! that Daniella – who played Sam Mitchell between 1990 and 2000 – is devastated over losing out on the opportunity after "getting herself back on track".
“Daniella is very bitter that she’s no longer playing Sam in EastEnders. That was her role and she’s upset she’s not doing it," the source told us.

They went on: "She’s tried to get herself back on track, and she feels like she should be given a chance with the role. She’s upset that they haven’t asked her because she thinks that role was made for her."
The source continued: "She is planning to spill the beans on all the secrets of what really went on in a new book.”
