EastEnders actor Danny Dyer has rushed to praise his onscreen daughter Rose Ayling-Ellis for her Strictly Come Dancing debut.

Rose, 26 performed a Jive to Taylor Swift's Shake It Off with her partner Giovanni Pernice, and the pair scored a total of 22 out of 40 points for the routine.

However, the scoring by head judge Shirley Ballas sparked some controversy as she opted to give the pair just four out of 10, with Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Motisi Mabuse all scoring Rose a six each.

However, this didn't upset Rose as she posted some happy photos and a video of her routine on her Instagram.

Rose, who stars as Frankie Lewis in EastEnders, captioned the post: "Last night was such a dream! @pernicegiovann1 I am so proud of us, thank you for given me the confidence and belief in myself. I cannot wait to keep on working with you!

"Last night have only motivated me to work harder and keeeeepp dancing!"

Her onscreen dad Danny Dyer – who plays Mick Carter – wasted no time in congratulating Rose on her first dance as he commented on her post: "Absolutely f***ing fearless Rose. So proud. "

Rose is the first ever deaf contestant to compete in Strictly. She uses BSL and has an interpreter on the show, while her pro partner Giovanni has begun learning sign language to help communication between them.

Explaining her reason for taking part in the show, Rose previously said she wants to remove the stigma that deaf people can't enjoy music, and explained that she uses the vibrations and counts the beat in order to learn her dance routines.

Giovanni posted a photo of Rose with the caption: "The most proud teacher I have been in a long time!! You are a beautiful and talent human @rose.a.e!! Well done on our first dance!! Week 2 here we come."

Some of Rose's co-stars have also been on Strictly before including Natalie Cassidy, Emma Barton, Kellie Bright, Maisie Smith and Scott Maslen.

She previously told the Sun: "I have had advice from Natalie, and she said always be comfortable in what you wear.

"So if anything feels long, always say 'can I have it a bit shorter'. Emma [Barton], she told me just to be myself.

"Just be who I am, if I'm shy, if I'm being awkward, just definitely be myself."

Rose couldn't tell anyone that she was in Strictly until the official announcement but she said she told Danny Dyer first.

She explained: "I told Danny [Dyer] first, and he said he was so proud of me. Then I told Maddy [Hill] and then Kellie, they are all so, so excited for me."
