This Week on the Farm presenter Helen Skelton regularly shares details of her working life on social media but admittedly got into trouble by doing so recently. It comes after the small-screen star shared a filming mishap that took place on the Channel 5 show.
The 37-year-old often captures moments on the farm from mischievous goats to being heckled by cows – and even a near-miss disaster with a reindeer.
The mum-of-two explained that it is a “challenge” filming with animals and decided to share the outtakes on Instagram.
Speaking about filming mishaps, Helen said: “It’s constant. The whole joy and challenge of filming with animals are that they don’t care about schedules, cameras, or people needing to do stuff.
“Often things take a lot longer because you don’t want to get to spit on by the alpacas.”
Addressing the moment in question where she was scolded behind the scenes, Helen remarked: “I got in trouble one day because I’m always saying let me share the outtakes, because people find it funny.
“Then I shared some outtakes but [reports] turned into ‘Helen apologised for an outburst of giggles.’ But it’s not uncommon for [the team] to get the giggles and lose it.”
The Countryfile presenter also dished on the issues with filming animals live on a farm.
“I got heckled a lot by a cow,” Helen chuckled. “There is literally a Highland cow that constantly moos non-stop whenever I’m trying to do links to camera.”
She continued: “Also, an alpaca called Helen is always trying to get into our pockets and nibbling scripts. It’s constant.
“But we have a laugh as well [on the show]. I think Jules [Hudson] and I are very grateful to be working and grateful to be working with people that we like. So it is a laugh.”
Helen, who is a former Blue Peter presenter, explained that she has always been in touch with nature and had a love for the outdoors.
Addressing her childhood, Helen said: “I was brought up on a farm. My dad was a dairy farmer but he works in animal reproduction now.

“My mum was on a farm when she was a kid. I lived in rural Cumbria until my mid-20s.
“It was only Newsround and Blue Peter that took me to London.”
Helen also revealed she obtained a river license and would often take her very own boat out onto the River Thames, as she sought solace while away from the countryside.
“Even when I lived in central London, I had a dog and I lived right on the river,” Helen said. “I lived in Chiswick and I had a river license.”
She added: “I used to put my boat over the wall and get in the river. It’s just part of who I am.”
Helen fronted the BBC children’s programme Blue Peter from 2008, until her exit four years later.
In 2014, Helen began presenting Countryfile and continues to front segments for the BBC show.
The small-screen star has since returned to her countryside roots, residing in Yorkshire with her husband Richie Myler and the couple’s two children; five-year-old Ernie and three-year-old Louis.
