Jesy Nelson has opened up further on the struggles she experienced during her time as one of the members of hugely-popular girl band Little Mix.

The 30 year old singer chose to step back from the group and strike out on her own last December after she admitted she was facing issues with her mental health by continuing to be part of the "machine".

Now the star has shed light on how she felt there was a constant comparison over her weight and body image to Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

She revealed she sadly always "felt fat" next to her "teeny-tiny" bandmates and even explained the physical side effects of what she would do to try and fit in with the others.

"I’d starve myself for days and I’d wear these corsets every single day, pulled so tight I could barely breathe…." Jesy told Glamour magazine.

"I used to wear corsets every single day to make my waist smaller which is mental but I so badly just wanted to look like Jade, Leigh and Perrie."

"I couldn't breathe half the time I was working and then my body would be covered in bruises from the corsets.." she continued.

The brunette beauty went on to say despite taking such intense measures to feel happy with her size, she was still left feeling "awful and fat".

Sadly, Jesy said that was how she "always felt" during her time in Little Mix.

Since departing the band, the pop star has explained how she nearly reached breaking point in 2013 due to the incessant and brutal trolling over her weight and appearance.

Finally able to turn a corner in her journey to self-acceptance, Jesy, who has also said she hasn't spoken to her Little Mix "sisters" since exiting the band, decided to quit the lip fillers this year and she also no longer wears corsets.

The singer, who started out on The X Factor when Simon Cowell put her and the the other girls into a new girl group for the show, has now said her heart sank after the group won the ITV competition as the reality of what she would face suddenly dawned.

"My first nightmare moment was our very first shoot when the stylist had all my clothes in a size 8 and I’m a 12," she told the magazine. "They didn’t fit. I felt awful, I felt fat and that was how I always felt."

Thankfully, Jesy's now looking to the future and feeling much more positive, as she said her "body confidence has improved so much".

"I’m not there yet, but I’m getting there. I don’t wear corsets, I stopped the lip fillers. I’m still wearing make-up, but nowhere near as much as I used to. My body confidence has improved so much," the singer added.
