Having made it clear he wants to lead his hometown NBA team, the New Orleans Pelicans, the rap mogul is reported to have joined forces with Roc Nation Sports’ Raymond Brothers.
AceShowbiz -Rap mogul Master P has given his dream of becoming a professional basketball coach a big boost by signing to Jay-Z‘s sports agency.
The music boss, real name Percy Miller, has made it clear he wants to lead his hometown NBA team, the New Orleans Pelicans, and he’s getting very serious about the idea. “I just hired a sports agent,” he told TMZ. “To be an NBA coach, you have to have a sports agent.”
He has joined forces with Roc Nation Sports’ Raymond Brothers, who has represented stars like Caron Butler and Zach Randolph.
“He’s a good friend of mine and he knows what he’s doing,” P added, insisting he’d make a good coach. “I understand people management,” he said. “Times have changed. I think I have the best people management skills than any NBA coach can have [sic].”
“I talked to [basketball coach] John Lucas, he’s willing to support me and come with me on this journey. So, I will have John Lucas that knows the X’s and O’s [court strategy] on the staff with me to make this happen. So, I got all the pieces to the puzzle. I think this will be history.”
P’s signing news came just days after he told TMZ, “The NBA is entertainment, I think it’s time for me to be the first hip-hop coach.” At the time, he reasoned, “What I know as basketball – I played in the NBA, I done coached a lot of great players that are in the league, I done took my sons from being high-school athletes to maybe they’ll be the next, future big-time pro athletes.”
“I think it’s time for something different. I think that’ll be different, unique for the NBA,” he went on explaining. “I know that I could show people like Zion [Williamson), all the great players that they have on that team, they need somebody that understand them. If they bring me in as a head coach, assistant coach, I think I could change the game.”
