Megan Thee Stallion Has New Music on the Way, and It’ll Be Here Sooner Than You Think

February is a good month for Megan Thee Stallion. Not only will the Houston-bred rapper celebrate her 27th birthday next week—which of course is actually a monthlong turn up, bc duh—but she is also appearing in her very first Super Bowl commercial on Sunday, which is a really big f*cking deal.

In what feels almost divine and inevitable all at once, Megan has teamed up with Frito-Lay to star in the snack brand’s first ever Super Bowl ad for none other than Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and Doritos. (Again, bc duh.) And this is all happening during Black History Month, too? “This is just the month of greatness!” cheered Megan, her sleek bob-with-flipped-ends giving a little shake from the excitement.

But in true form, Megan didn’t stop there. For the commercial, where she voices a little red birdie, Megan also remixed the iconic song “Push It” by legendary rap group Salt-N-Pepa, and later released a full version of the track called “Flamin’ Hottie” that’s only available until February 18 on streaming services. So basically, Megan has been booked, busy, and very much still on her cash sh*t.

In honor of the moment, the Hot Girl Coach sat down with Cosmopolitan to talk about the Super Bowl commercial, when to expect her new music, and other special projects that just may be on the way. Read on for the full conversation.

Cosmo: How are you feeling about having a Super Bowl commercial this year? It’s a really big deal, especially with this brand I know you love.

Megan: Of course! I feel like it’s been a long time coming because all my life, I’ve definitely been eating Hot Cheetos. I was eating Hot Cheetos for breakfast at school (when I was in college). I be eating Hot Cheetos still to this day—everywhere I go, I ask for Hot Cheetos with lime. Just give it to me. So when the opportunity came for me to be able to do this, I was like, “Oh my God! Look at God, he be knowing what I want to do.” I was so excited to do this.

That’s amazing. I was gonna ask how you eat yours because I know everybody has their own little way. I used to eat mine with straight sour cream—middle school me was going through something.

Oh my god! So, I eat Hot Cheetos with lime, and then you gotta squeeze another little lime on top just so you can give it an extra kick. Or, put on some tajin—that’ll really kick it up. Or when I make nachos, I use Flamin’ Hot Doritos instead of regular tortilla chips. I am an expert in all things hot, that’s exactly why they got the Hot Girl Coach.

I mean, it’s only right. You were really in your acting bag in the commercial and in the teasers! Is that something you hope to dabble in more?

Definitely. I definitely want to get more into it. I feel like not only do I want to act, but I want to direct too. People got to know what’s going on inside this head. I had so much fun doing the acting for the commercial. Outside of music, I definitely want to get into my acting bag, and I definitely want to get in my directing bag—which I’ve already started opening the bag a little bit and getting in there. I’m just excited for Hotties to see that side of me too.

Speaking of directing, I know you have a super dope Netflix deal to produce some new series. Can you tell me a little bit about that and what kind of stories you hope to tell?

Well, if I told you, then I’d be giving it away. You got to be surprised!

Okay, okay fair. But I had to try! You’ll also be performing at Coachella for the first time this coming April. What can the Hotties expect from your performance?

By the time Coachella comes, I will have some new music out in the world, so definitely be on the lookout for that. It’s going to be the first time I’ve ever actually get to perform it. This is my biggest performance ever—like, the biggest stage, the biggest festival—so I’m honestly a little nervous because I’ve never did it before. I hear only great things about Coachella so I’m gonna make it an experience that the Hotties won’t forget.

What has preparation looked like for you? Have you been on that Beyoncé regimen?

You know, we been eating right, getting tight, in rehearsals and whatnot. We are back in Hottie Bootcamp. My New Year started yesterday (January 31), and it is now my birthday month, but definitely we have been on Hottie Bootcamp and we been doing what we’re supposed to do so when we pop back out, it’ll be the biggest pop out ever.

Period! Would you ever consider being a Super Bowl halftime headliner one day, and if so, how do you envision it going down, like are there other artists you’d want to guest during your performance?

We just have to manifest it because I could definitely see myself doing it. I really want to do it. So Hotties, we gon’ keep our fingers crossed, we gon’ pray on it, and we gon’ speak it into the universe because one day I will be up on that stage. And it will just be the hottest thing that anybody has ever seen at the Super Bowl.

In the midst of all your busyness, how do you take care of Megan?

Self-care for me definitely looks like a lot of naps. It looks like spending a lot of time with my dogs. I’ve been really reading a lot lately, and I do like to fish randomly. So just little stuff that people probably wouldn’t expect me to be doing.

I love that. What have you been reading?

The book I just finished is called The Maid by Nita Prose. It was bomb. I highly suggest everybody to read it if you like mysteries and thrillers. Now I’m reading something else, but I forget what it’s called because I just started it yesterday. But we’ll give an update on how I feel about this book.

The next thing you’ll have to do then is get a Hot Girl reading club going.

Okay! I like that! A Hot Girl Book Club—that’s what we doing next!

Welp, the Hotties heard it here first!

I know. My Hotties have definitely been noticing that I haven’t been online too. They’ve been asking, “Oh my gosh, Megan, where you at? Where you at?” But I just want them to know that I’m finally in a good space with my working and my mental, and I’m just ready to get back out here. I can’t wait to keep interacting with y’all. Love y’all!
