Netflix Shares Trailer For 'Ladies First: A Story Of Women In Hip-Hop'

Netflix recently shared a trailer for their upcoming documentary series, “Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop.”

The four-episode documentary series, which will highlight women’s contributions and achievements spanning over a period of five decades, is set to premiere on Netflix on August 9.

The trailer features Queen Latifah and offers viewers a retrospective of how the genre has evolved and embraced women artists while giving a nod to the artists who made this era of female dominance on the charts possible.

“We have been through a lot,” Latifah declares in the clip. “We have stood back up, and we’ll always keep standing back up.”

“By giving flowers to originators like Sha-Rock and Roxanne Shante or hearing real talk from contemporary superstars like Saweetie and Coi Leray, Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop contextualizes the history of the music that changed the world within the wider social, racial, and political landscape of the times and, crucially, through a female lens,” says a press release from Netflix.

The docuseries will also feature interviews with top rappers like Queen Latifah, Rah Digga, and MC Lyte, who will be reflecting on their experiences during hip-hop’s first rise in popularity.

The film also features Remy Ma, Yo-Yo, Da Brat, Rah Digga, Bahamadia, Tierra Whack, Latto, Monie Love, Kash Doll, Rapsody, Chika, and more.
