Hollywood actress Jamie Lee Curtis has shared the news that her youngest child is transgender. The Freaky Friday star was amazed as her “son became her daughter”.

Jamie, 62, spoke in awe of her daughter Ruby, 25, who was born Thomas, who next year will marry her fiancée.

The star also confirmed that she will be officiating Ruby’s wedding.

Her daughter, who she shares with her husband Christopher Guest, lives a relatively low-key life, working as a computer gaming editor.

The actress claims that by Ruby coming out, she has helped challenge “old ideas” surrounding gender, adding it is a “constant metamorphosis”.

Speaking to AARP magazine, with Ruby’s blessing about her transition, Jamie confirmed that while she currently has no grandchildren, she is hoping this will change.

“Not yet, but I do hope to,” she told the publication.

While Ruby may have recently come out as her true self, Jamie has been one of Hollywood’s longest LGBTQ+ allies.

Just two years ago, she stated that people have the right to keep their sexuality private.

At the time, she told Pride Source: “I don’t think it’s anybody’s business what people’s sexuality is, to be perfectly honest, I find it like a reverse discrimination.”

However, while she believes sexuality should be a private matter, there are occasions when she claims you should out somebody.

“[Unless] you legislate anti-gay legislation but are gay, I fully accept outing those people for the hypocrisy,” she said.

The actress has also poured her advocacy work into her film career and is set to take make a film focusing on an Oklahoma woman who steps in for absent mums at same-sex weddings.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Jamie said she wants to do Sara Cunningham’s story “justice”.

Sara is an advocate of supporting LGBTQ+ people whose parents make the decision not to attend their wedding due to their sexuality.

Jamie continued: “I continue to be thrilled as her movement is catching on,

“I hope to do justice to her story and the story of so many marginalised people in the LGBTQ community.”

Elsewhere, Jamie opened up about her battle with addiction.

After being sober for 22 years following an addiction to painkillers and alcohol, she said the “process of being a sober person puts you in a one day at a time mentality”.

Taking to Instagram earlier this year, she revealed: “Getting sober remains my single greatest accomplishment … bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children and bigger than any work, success, failure. Anything.”
