Between the upcoming sci-fi epic Dune, his Netflix film Sweet Girl, and his Apple TV+ series See, it’s been a busy month for Jason Momoa. So even though the star had a moment of his own around Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to 2018’s DCEU hit Aquaman, last week—revealing a new Aquaman “stealth” suit—it’s probably a relief that this week’s viral moment goes to his co-star Patrick Wilson, who’s showing off an uber-ripped comic book body (and a wild man beard) of his own that rivals that of Momoa himself.
In an Instagram that quickly caught fire online, the movie’s director James Wan (known mostly for his contributions to the horror genre, in The Conjuring, Saw, Insidious, and the upcoming Malignant) shared a photo with Wilson, reprising his role as King Orm/Ocean Master from the first Aquaman film, but looking drastically different. Namely? A huge beard, and a body that looks like it took quite a bit of time to work to achieve.
“I found this guy @thereelpatrickwilson stranded on a desert beach, doing his Cast Away impression,” Wan captioned his post before adding “#Aquaman” onto the end.

Wilson has been showing off his supervillain (or, perhaps in the sequel, a Loki-esque Anti-Hero?) gains recently; a couple days prior he posted another shirtless workout picture on his own Instagram. “Can Atlanteans Run? #SeeOrmRun #RunOrmRun #aquamanandthelostkingdom,” he wrote.

Wilson, has, of course, worked with Wan before in not only Aquaman, but in the Insidious and The Conjuring franchises as well. Wilson is also well known for his roles in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen movie, the second season of FX’s Fargo anthology series, and for those who love great comedy shows, a memorable cameo as a hilarious version of himself in Comedy Central/HBO Max’s The Other Two.
He has been vocal in the past about wanting to work out enough to match Momoa in the Aquaman movies. While he didn’t have a shirtless scene in the original movie, he made sure that if the time came for it, he’d be ready.
“Jason’s got all these shirtless scenes, and even though I didn’t know how much time I’d be spending with my shirt off, I didn’t want anyone watching the movie to wonder, Hmm, why are those two guys evenly matched? I had to be the biggest, most fit version of myself,” he told Vulture in an interview. “That’s what he is in the comic; he’s not one of the skinny, intellectual-type villains. He’s supposed to be badass.”
And now, it looks like he gets to show off the results of that hard work—at least a little—in the sequel.
