Pregnant Gemma Atkinson hits back at mum-shamers over exercise shaming

Gemma Atkinson has no time for the mum-shamers out there who've targeted her strict fitness regime during pregnancy.

Expecting her and Strictly Come Dancing pro Gorka Marquez's second kid together – daughter Mia arrived in July 2019 – the 38 year old posted a homemade workout montage onto Instagram last weekend as a veiled response to recent criticism.

Her detailed caption read: "Today. Slow and steady as usual for now. I’ve trained for years pre pregnancy & been given the all clear to keep training under the supervision of a woman’s health physio & my PT.

"It’s been a while since I’ve moved like this as aside from walking and my pre bed stretches I did nothing on holiday. Felt good to do something and get my heart rate up a little. One thing I’m constantly monitoring now in my sessions is coning or doming on my bump as some call it."

The former Emmerdale (she played Carly Hope) and Hollyoaks (Lisa Hunter) actress went on to share: "I don’t want to put too much stress on my abs as it could contribute to issues for my pelvic floor and diastasis recti post baby. So, I keep an eye on it, control my breathing and with a much more light and restricted program I crack on.

"Obv there’s some days when training just doesn’t happen, either because I don’t feel like it or I’m knackered. Pre pregnancy it’s on those days that my discipline would kick in and I’d get it done and feel Great after.

"But for now, it’s not just about me, I’m 2nd to little man so my priority is housing him as best I can whilst mentally keeping myself in a good place."

After these educated words had digested, Gemma's followers were largely supportive of her choices, as one replied in the comment column: "Wow, you're so inspirational. I'm 82 years old, not fit, and we weren't encouraged to excersie at all except we walk for hours with our prams no car, but you keep it up girl hopee you have a lovely happy baby xx [sic]."

Another person went on to reveal: "Pregnant with my first and I’ve had to take a step back from training. I was being hard on myself about it at first but I’ve really enjoyed slowing down.

"I do yoga everyday and try swim 4/5 times a week instead. I have 2 dogs who I walk most days (if not my husband walks them) and I feel this is enough. I love seeing how you train, and appreciate your honesty."
