SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Mick Jagger's brother leaves no Stone unturned

SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Mick Jagger’s brother leaves no Rolling Stone unturned in memoir

Sir Mick Jagger could get no satisfaction from writing his memoirs, but it appears his little brother can.

Although Mick returned the £1 million advance for his autobiography because he found the past too painful to relive, his brother Chris is ready to spill the family beans. ‘I wrote it myself — I didn’t have a ghost writer — so I had to find my voice,’ says Jagger Jr of the tome, Talking To Myself.

The gossipy book will shed light on the brothers’ early years growing up in Dartford, Kent, and their careers as musicians. ‘Mick and I share similar early influences, and our parents were central to that.’

Their father Joe Jagger, a former PE teacher, initially disapproved of Mick’s career choice, particularly after he dropped out of a degree course at the London School of Economics to pursue music.

Sir Mick, 77, and Chris, 73, remain close — the Rolling Stone frontman sings backing vocals on blues wailer Chris’s new album, Mixing Up The Medicine. The book will also chronicle the younger Jagger’s musical adventures with entertaining detours into his travels to India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Israel, where he acted in a production of the musical Hair.

His CV includes treading the boards with Pierce Brosnan and Ciaran Hinds, making blues documentaries for the BBC and Sky Arts, and fleeting lyrics additions on two Rolling Stones albums.

After decades of gigging he finally cracked on with writing his book and turned last year’s lockdown into an unexpected bonus. But he reveals sympathy for Mick and the devilishly difficult task of penning his life story.

‘Writing took longer than I anticipated,’ he says. ‘It was a lot harder than I thought. Writing doesn’t have to be all poetry. I’ve even got some recipes in there.’

Actress Billie Piper admits to spending a huge chunk of her day on her mobile.

‘I do everything on my phone. All my notes are on it — any sort of writing or thoughts or work-related stuff,’ she says.

‘Apparently, I spend seven hours on my mobile, according to my average update. It seems like a lie, like the phone’s got it wrong . . . ’

Clarkson girl is boot-iful on her ‘predding’ day

Not only has the pandemic delayed weddings, it seems to have given rise to a new pre-nuptial ceremony.

Petrolhead Jeremy Clarkson’s daughter, author Emily, 26, marked what would have been her wedding day to publicist Alex Andrew, 26, at the weekend with a so-called ‘predding’.

The gathering, held in the Cotswolds, resembled a wedding in many ways: Emily wore a white dress — the same one her mother, Frances Cain, wore when she wed Jeremy — and they even tucked into a ‘predding cake’.

‘We can’t wait to do this all again next year. Exactly the same, except I won’t be in Dr Martens and there will be a vicar,’ says Emily.

Azzi was previously courted by Vikings star Jack McEvoy, 27.

Geri’s ‘girl power’ pep talk gives hubby a kick

From publicly flirting with Prince Charles to dancing on stage in a tight Union Jack mini dress, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has never worried too much about what others think.

Now her attitude is rubbing off on her husband, Red Bull Racing Formula One team boss Christian Horner. ‘You need honest people around you. My wife can be brutal,’ he admits.

‘She says always be aware that a pat on the back is six inches from a kick up the a***. ‘That’s absolutely true — particularly within the media world.

‘You can’t control what people think of you. They either like you or they don’t. Learning to let go of wanting to be liked is a very empowering thing.’

Actors face being quizzed on their sexuality at auditions, if pop star Will Young has his way.

The former Pop Idol winner, who came out in 2002, declares only gay actors should be cast in gay roles.

Young, 42, says of a show he watched featuring homo-sexual characters: ‘I went to see this play and, out of the company of ten people, only three of the actors were gay. In my opinion all those actors should be gay.’

Harry’s yoga pal: you can beat stress

The Duke of Sussex can always rely on his old friend, yoga teacher Lady Zoe Warren, daughter of the 14th Earl of Galloway, for tips on how to manage his ‘severe anxiety’.

The 37-year-old wife of Princess Diana’s godson Jake Warren has dispensed a timely ‘toolkit’ for such matters.

‘Anxiety is something we can all sympathise with,’ she says in an online video.

‘I have four steps when anxiety arises. Step one is to acknowledge the anxiety. The second is to accept it.

The third is to support yourself: bring a hand onto the knot in your belly. And use a mantra such as: “You’re going to be OK.” ’

Relations between William and Harry might be increasingly messy, but courtiers are determined to make sure Kensington Palace is tidied up before the statue of Princess Diana is unveiled next month.

Officials have successfully applied to carry out the removal of ‘dead wood’ from the grounds of Diana’s former home.

In all, more than 30 trees are to be pruned and chopped back in work which is expected to be completed by the July unveiling.

‘There will no doubt be a few wry smiles over any moves to get rid of deadwood,’ one royal observer jokes. ‘Could that also extend to certain members of the family?’
