After the ‘Sister Act’ actress tested positive for the deadly virus, it’s announced that ‘The View’ shifts to remote production from the co-hosts’ respective homes.
AceShowbiz –Whoopi Goldberg has contracted COVID-19. The “Sister Act” actress caught the virus weeks after she tested negative despite potential exposure. Following her coronavirus diagnosis, “The View” returns to virtual tapings for safety measure.
“Whoopi unfortunately tested positive over the break, but she’ll be back, probably, next week,” Joy Behar explained during the Monday, January 3 episode of the ABC series. The 79-year-old TV personality further noted that Whoopi is fully vaccinated and has received her COVID-19 booster shot so her “symptoms have been very, very mild,” adding, “We’ll be checking with her soon.”
Joy told the audience that the entire cast and crew for “The View” are being “super cautious” amid the spike in coronavirus cases and a new surge of the Omicron variant following the Christmas season. The “Joy Behar: Say Anything!” alum added that she and the rest of the show’s panel, including Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines and guest host Ana Navarro, will be filming remotely from their respective homes.
“They say there’s no place like home for the holidays and that’s exactly where we are this year,” Joy went on saying. “Happy New Year from all of our living rooms. As you can see, we’re back in boxes and doing the show remotely, hopefully for just a week. I’m praying that it’s just a week, but you never know because this Omicron thing is all over the place.”
As for Whoopi’s health scare, she previously tested negative for the virus after she was in close contact with someone positive. In the December 15 episode of the talk show, her co-host Joy shared that Whoopi felt “fine and healthy.”
“Whoopi wanted me to tell everyone because she feels fine and healthy but because she was in close contact with someone who tested positive, she won’t be here today and tomorrow,” Joy explained on the show. She also pointed out that the show’s staff are prohibited from entering the studio if they’ve come in contact with the virus.
“If you’re near someone who has been exposed and is positive, you can’t come here. That’s the way we operate here,” Joy shared. “She also wanted me to share that she tested negative earlier today and she had her booster. You will see her on Friday because we taped a show earlier this week.”
