I gave up fake tanning because it was starting to make me stink and it ruled my life – now I’m au naturale | The Sun

A YOUNG woman has revealed that she decided to ditch fake tan after she started to “smell weird” and look like there were seeds on her legs.

YouTuber Jasmine Homden shared her experience ditching the bronzy foam and set herself a challenge not to wear fake tan for a whole month.

She said it "ruled her life" at one point.

The 24-year-old’s main reason to do so was “the amount of effort” it took to bronze her skin every few days.

But things like the stench of fake tan and the way it was affecting her skin were also key players in her decision.

Taking to YouTube, Jasmine said: “I would somewhat agree that having glowing, radiant skin is healthy.

“However, the effort it requires to actually get a fake tan is ridiculous.

“It just got to a point where I was like, ‘why am I doing this?’

“It’s just so much effort.”

But the effort isn’t the only thing that tipped her over the edge.

Jasmine got fed up with “constantly smelling” like fake tan.

She explained: “There’s no other way to describe it.

“No matter what tan I had, I would always have a weird smell.

“It was reacting with my perfumes, it was reacting with my skin.

“Everything just kind of smelt a little bit off.

“I kind of just hated it.

“I started to be able to smell myself and even if I’d worn a piece of clothing for an hour or so, it would have that fake tan smell.”

Her third reason was strawberry legs, which is where enlarged pores on the legs go darker and begin to look like strawberry seeds.

While it is a common skin annoyance, the appearance of strawberry legs can be worsened by shaving and fake tan.

Jasmine said: “Any fake tan I was using was creating strawberry leg and I would have really dark spots where my hair follicles were.

“And it had never ever happened to me before.

“Usually I’d fake tan and I’d look like I had really smooth, bronzed legs but it was starting to get to a point where it was looking weird.

“I didn’t like it. It was something that was really starting to put me off fake tanning.

“I didn’t want to get my legs out after spending all that effort tanning and shaving and prepping.”

“To not even want to get my legs out just felt really pointless to me.”

Dermatologists promote the use of fake tan over sunbeds and prolonged sun exposure because it is a safer way to look like you’ve just spent two weeks in the Caribbean.

However, the sheer effort of shaving your skin, prepping it for fake tan and then letting your body marinade in it is enough to make some people choose to go au naturale.
