I struggled to have kids but I've just given birth to two sets of twins at the same time | The Sun

A WOMAN has defied odds to give birth to two sets of identical twins at the same time.

Ashley Ness, 35, from Boston, welcomed two girls and two boys on July 28 via Caesarean.

The newborn babies were due to be born in October and arrived 12 weeks earlier than they had planned at Massachusetts General Hospital.

They will now spend eight weeks in intensive care, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Part-time hairdresser Ashley told People: “The babies decided to make their entrance to the world sooner than expected. I feel amazing.”

Ashley, who previously struggled to conceive following the birth of her first child, is said to be recovering well.

People are gobsmacked at twins’ truly terrible baby names which are so bad

The miraculous pregnancy occurred after two eggs were fertilised by two different sperm, and then those eggs split creating twins.

The odds of this happening were one in 10 million, and Dr Ahmet Baschat said the pregnancy was “high risk” and the first he’d encountered in his 30-year career.

What was also unusual was Ashley was at an appointment for a new batch of contraceptives when she learned she was pregnant.

Two weeks later, she found out she was expecting the two sets of twins, to the shock of the ultrasound technician who had to leave the room to Google if it was even possible.

Ashley spoke of the moment she was told she was pregnant with four babies – not quadruplets – who are twin girls and twin boys.

"When she first started the scan, she was looking at the screen and wrote, 'A, B,' so I stopped and looked at her and was like, 'Wait, I'm having twins?" Ashley told the show.

"And she's like, 'Oh I don't know… I'm going to step out for a minute'."

The mum-of-one who had struggled to get pregnant revealed that the initial shock quickly turned into excitement for both her and her partner Val – who has three kids from a previous relationship.

The part-time hairdresser continued: "I had a very hard time conceiving my daughter and I've had miscarriages in the past, so I feel like to be able to be blessed with something so big is so amazing."

In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been sent up by a friend to help cover the financial cost of the four little miracles.
