I work in a nail salon and this is what your mani says about your personality

JUST LIKE a carefully selected accessory, your nails can reflect everything from your sense of style to your personality flair.

From abstract nails to French manicures in surprising hues to themed nail art, there’s a variety of nail designs to suit different people.

But have you ever wondered what your favourite nail colour says about you? Here, find out what your most popular mani reveals about you and your personality.

Emily Ewart-Perks, Co-Founder of Secret Spa based in London, Manchester and Brighton, revealed different nail styles can mean a number of things.

She said: “Secret Spa is amazing because it brings the salon to you, making it easier than ever to fit a manicure into our clients busy schedules.

“We work with a network of over 600 beauty and wellness professionals and nails is our busiest category!

We are seeing that a manicure is becoming more and more about our clients' identities and what their manicure reveals about them.

“It’s a way of expressing themselves. Having a manicure always used to be a treat but it seems now that it has become a habit and an accessory to our clients overall looks.”

Emily went on to reveal that Secret Spa’s elite professionals who work with top brands such as OPI, love to create bespoke looks with their clients to fit their personalities.

She explained that this was especially evident over the Christmas period when clients went “all out” with creative festive looks that they put together with the expert  technicians.

Even when Omicron was looming, people couldn’t go without their unique nail look to show off at the Christmas parties.

Emily also said they recognized the trend of sparkly tips/moons over the festive season.

Secret Spa has a range of celebrity clients who have their manicures with them including Ashley Roberts, Vicky Pattison, Vogue Williams, Megan McKenna and Binky Felstead.

But nail expert Emily insists her favourite nail shape would always be almond as it “works for all seasons” and makes her hands look extremely elegant.

She also explained what common nail designs and shapes mean about the client’s personality.

FRENCH MANICURE

When clients pick a French manicure they are definitely wanting to show off their sophisticated lifestyle, revealed nail expert Emily.

She said: “You say they are perfectionists. We often see this look picked out by our most high powered clients who often have jobs within the city of London.”

FRENCH MANICURE WITH A TWIST

But if a client goes for a French manicure with a twist then they are following trends, added Emily.

She explained that coloured or rainbow tips or moons have been a huge trend especially during the summer months.

She pointed out that these are for the people who want to express their inner rebel with a “spruce of colour”.

NAIL ART

This is the go-to for the fashionistas, revealed nail expert Emily.

She said: “These extroverts have been asking for the wildest designs to match their brand new looks.

“They want their nails to coordinate with their designer collections or the prints that they are wearing. Some have even asked for the exact nails seen on the catwalk!”

SQUARE NAIL SHAPE

A square nail shape makes for a strong person, explained Emily.

She suggested that those who opt for the square shaped nail are often confident and well put together.

She described them as being ambitious with a strive to achieve.

FULL GLITTER

Nail expert Emily revealed glitter is for those extroverts that love to party, especially with all that glitz and glam.

She said: “We saw over Christmas that full glitter was the go-to, often chosen to brighten up the client’s day, lift their mood as well as everyones around them in those hectic weeks in the run up to the festive season.”

COFFIN NAIL SHAPE

The coffin shaped nails are for the trend setters, revealed Emily.

But she explained that they are usually chosen by clients who aren’t quite brave enough to branch out to the stiletto and also want a more practical option.

She described the nail shape as “practical but pretty.”

OMBRE

Ombre is for those clients with a creative streak, the nail expert explained.

She said: “They see what colours mix well and really give their pop. These are for the people that are willing to try new styles and things.”

PASTELS

Pastel nails are for those with a more calm character who don't want their manicures to be front and centre or a distraction, revealed the nail expert.

STILETTO NAIL SHAPE

But the stiletto nail shape is for the full extroverts around us.

Emily said: “These people hold power and are creative as well as expressive (think Christine from Selling Sunset!) Their manicure is a huge part of their look.”

ALMOND NAIL SHAPE

The almond nail shape is incredibly popular, revealed Emily, as she said it’s very flattering.

She said the nail shape is often chosen by “modern extroverts who want to mix trendy with sophisticated.”
