WE’VE all seen the interiors trends that have been circulating on social media.

But what do the home experts really make of them? And are they worth the hype?

According to interior design pro Phoenix Gray, aka Design Daddy, there are three decor decisions that mark disaster – and should be banned altogether.

Design Daddy, who can be found on TikTok at @mrphoenixgrey uploaded a video titled ‘worst design trends’ in which he slammed three current looks gaining likes on social media.

And it’s bad news if you’re a fan of DIY marble or concrete worktops as he later quipped: “These are some DIY’s that should have DI-Died.”

He then began his list for those thinking of making over their property: “The absolute worst design trends that are coming out of social media right now.

“First up on the list is plastering everything – your walls, your decor, especially your furniture.

“This has been a huge DIY thing that I’ve seen so much of lately.”

Lifting the lid on why it’s a total no-no, he continued: “Not only does it look like a complete mess but if you aren’t sealing it correctly, this is going to crack at any little bit of water.

He added that those who do “complete surfaces in this plaster look” might think it looks cute, but it’s not practical.

Design Daddy continued: “It’s going to break and crack and you’re not going to be able to actually clean it because these surfaces are so rough.”

He then slammed it as looking “uncomfortable”.

Similarly, Design Daddy is not a big fan of faux marble surfaces, commonly found on trending Instagram posts.

He said: “A lot of people are getting into them thinkin it gives them that luxurious look.

“But if you are not an artist and know how to do this properly, it ends up being a complete mess and it doesn’t give you that luxurious look.”

While the third trend that found itself in the firing line was the disco ball.

He explained: “I get it, you’re a huge fan of the Beyonce Renaissance album.

“But including the disco ball trend on everything in your home? It just looks so messy!”

Instead, he encouraged people who want that look to opt for more subtle mosaic type photo frames or lamps.

He concluded: “These melted disco balls and having them on everything, or completely covering your furniture in those little disco tiles makes it look way busier than you think it is.”
