Posting on Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one woman shared her simple hack with fellow cleaners.
Andrea Mitchinson wrote: “Hi Hinchers! I've just been speaking to a washing machine technician about a fault on my Hotpoint.

“He asked what I use in the machine and when I said I put a squirt of white vinegar in the drawer, he said to avoid white vinegar as it's far too acidic and can contribute to harming the pipes and seal.
“He recommended using soda crystals instead as he said that this will properly clean the machine.”
While many were shocked to hear that white vinegar should not be used in washing machines, lots of cleaning fans praised soda crystals as an effective cleaning agent.
One person said: “Thank you for the heads up. I was told years ago only to use soda crystals and it definitely works.”
Another added: “I only put soda crystals in my machine and it works amazingly”.
A third commented: “I’ve always used soda crystals in my washer for this very reason.”
Soda crystals are known for being able to get rid of grease, stains, and foul smells.
