A MUM has revealed how her former mother-in-law is threatening to sue her and file for full custody of her daughter if she doesn’t return the gifts she paid for.
Taking to Mumsnet, the woman revealed that she split with her husband in 2017 due to issues with “violence and control” on his side, and the pair share a seven-year-old daughter.
While their relationship as a couple did not work out, the pair maintain an co-parenting relationship.
Their daughter has belongings at both her home and her grandparents' homes, and when she outgrows one size, the pair chip in to kit her out with a new wardrobe.
Writing in her post, she said: "We have both agreed that as long as she has clothes and toys at both homes things can move between them – both homes have a 1 in 1 out policy so if she brings something from Ex-H's to here, she takes something from here back to Ex-H's and vice versa.”
On occasion, both parents sell old clothing to help pay for new clothing, and sometimes organise swaps with other children to exchange small clothes for bigger ones.
But the woman’s former mother-in-law is far from happy with their current arrangement.
"Ex-MIL has sent me a long ranting text asking for all the clothes back she's bought for DD (darling daughter) over the last few years, accused me of selling them to 'profit from her son' and told me if I don’t hand them all over she is taking me to the small claims court for reimbursement before taking me to the family courts for full custody," the mum continued in her post.

"I’ve replied saying that when DD grows out of clothes both me and Ex-H sell the old ones to replace with new things, I have no idea which clothes she bought for DD as things go between homes but if DD's wardrobe there was running short of things I could sort out a bag of clothes to send with DD next time she’s there to keep there.
"She’s replied 'see you in court'."
The mum said what she replied is the genuine truth, there are probably items of clothing paid for by her side of the family at their house and vice versa, but she's never considered who bought what as long as her daughter is happy and well cared for.
She suspects this outburst from her former mother-in-law may have something to do with the fact that she thinks her son is paying too much child support.
Fellow Mumsnet users were quick to respond with their own advice, with many suggesting she wasn’t worth the worry.
"She’s a f***ing idiot," commented one person, "Ignore."
Another added, "No judge would permit this idiocy in any court."
Multiple commenters recommended getting the little girl's father involved.
"I would forward the message on to your ex and ask if he knows anything about it, let him deal with it," suggested one person. "His response will let you know if he has got anything to do with it."
And another suggested a well-thought-out message in response to the mother-in-law: "I think I'd send something along the lines of 'mine and Ex's setup of buying clothes and toys for DD is working really well for her and I feel like we have a good co-parenting relationship.
“If there's clothes at your house that you want keeping there, then don't send them to my house. But don't try to disrupt DD's routine and take me to court over some tops because it won't benefit anyone, certainly not DD."
