You’ve been cleaning your loo wrong the entire time – and you’ll kick yourself when you realise how

HAVE you been thinking you've been giving your toilet a thorough clean? Well, you'll be shocked to find out you've been doing it wrong this entire time.

An American TikTok user who goes by the username Wirecutter has revealed the correct way to clean your loo, and it involves a bucket of water.

Naturally, people reach for a standard supermarket disinfectant spray to give the toilet a once over, but there's more to it than that.

Uploading a video to the video sharing app, they said simply using toilet cleaner around the bowl is the wrong way to do it.

"You need to dump a bucket of water into the toilet to force it to flush without adding more water from the tank," they said in the video.

"That way the water won't dilute the cleaning solution."

Hundreds of people have commented on the post, which has since been watched over 2.5M times online.

A variety of people have thanked the uploader for sharing the hack.

"Learned something new today," one person commented.

"Well I've been going it wrong all this time," said another.

A third person commented: "And no over splashing. Omg genius."

While some commenters were thankful for the information in the video being shared, not everyone agreed with the hack.

One viewer said they could only see this being a problem in North America, as the water in the bowl often sits so much higher up. Others said they thought it was completely unnecessary.

"Toilet cleaner is concentrated. It can be diluted. Never had a problem for 40 years," one person said.

"Um no one is going through that extra stop," another commented.

Someone else added: "As a professional cleaner, we don't do that."
