WITH so many things going on at this time of year, it can be easy to forget things like keys, your work pass or even changes.
If you find yourself at the supermarket without a £1 coin for the trolley though, there’s a simple hack which will help you getting your shopping done.
Though many of have a trolley token on our keys, this clever trick will save you at the supermarket if you ever lose it.
Like many hacks, the method was originally shared on Tiktok by user @tasha32 who demonstrated that you could release a trolley using two stacked 20p coins – if you didn’t have a £1 coin.
According to Tasha, she was shown the hack at her local Tesco and the mum was left in utter shock when it worked on her trolley.
In the caption, she even wrote: “When some lady shows you this at Tesco…how am I only just learning this?”

Unsurprisingly, she wasn’t the only one who was impressed by the thrifty tip and her video rapidly went viral – gaining over 3 million views.
In the comments, her followers gushed about the hack and one even wrote: “Literally running to a supermarket to try this out!!!”
Sadly though, not every shopper has been able to make the hack work for them.
“I did this in Aldi and it got stuck… [a] bunch of people surrounded the trolley helping me get it out,” another woman confessed, adding: “…they probably thought I had no brain cells.”

Supermarket workers have also warned against using the tip, with many of them revealing they’d spent hours trying to remove the loose change from the trolleys.
“Please don’t,” begged one worker, saying: “They get stuck and I spend most [of] my shift trying to remove 20ps from trolleys.”
“The coins also get stuck inside. Pet hate at a place I do part-time work at,” explained a fourth.
For those of you who are still stuck with no change though, there is another trolley hack you can try.
Rather than using the wrong change, simply slot the round end of your house key in and you should be able to start your shopping in seconds.
Shared by Tiktoker Chloe, she says that the hack has become a staple for her – especially in an age when many of us don’t carry change anymore.
After her viral video gained over 1.5 million views, many people have thanked the mum for her supermarket tip and have even tested it in the real world.
“OMG thanks for the tip, it’s helped me! The other day I forgot a pound to put in my trolley so I remembered this Tiktok and used my house key” one commented.
Another impressed viewer joked that it felt ‘illegal’ to know this hack, because it was so good.
Whilst we can’t promise that you'll remember everything at the checkout, at least you have this hack for when you forget your change.
