We found over £3k in cash in our hotel safe… we debated what to do with it and not everyone agrees with our decision | The Sun

A WOMAN who found over £3,000 in her hotel safe in Paris has defended her decision not to take it for herself.

Ti took to her TikTok page to recall the crazy story, as she wrote over her video: "We found 3850 Euros (£3,417) in our hotel room safe in Paris.

"We contemplated what we should do and eventually decided to contact management.

"Loss prevention showed up to count the money as well.

"Although it hurts, we did the right thing. Who knows where the money came from."

She added in the caption: "The money went bye bye! We just couldn’t take something that just wasn’t ours."

But the majority of people in the comments section insisted they would have just kept the money.

"Y’all really better than me, I’d be Emily in Paris for a week," one wrote.

"I would have checked out, and found an alternative hotel and then lived my best holiday life," another added.

"The way I would I would of blown the money and enjoyed Paris even more," a third commented.

Following the backlash, Ti returned to TikTok to share a story time of exactly what had happened, revealing it was actually her sister's friends who found the money when they opened the safe to put their passports in it.

"We’re just in awe, standing, and that’s when we started contemplating what to do," she said.

"Do we give this money back? Do we keep it?

"There was a lot of discussion back and forth.

"Trust me, we’re humans, we contemplated taking it and keeping it for ourselves and enjoying a grand old time in Paris.

"We probably spent 30 minutes debating what we should do.

"And then collectively, all of us decided the best thing to do was to try and get this back to the owner."

At that point, they called a manager up to their room.

"I kid you not, the first thing she said to us, like everyone in the comments, was, ‘Oh my God, you guys are better than me, I would not have said a word'," Ti continued.

"Honestly guys, it did not feel right, something felt very wrong, and I’m pretty superstitious, as well as religious, and we did not feel comfortable keeping that money.

"We don’t know how that money was acquired, we have no idea, and we just couldn’t take the risk.

"If we took that money, I would not sleep at night, I would just not be comfortable – and all of us felt that way."

The manager then called up loss prevention, who took pictures of everything and counted the money themselves.

"We absolutely stand by our decision – our conscience is clear and I’m not going to let a bunch of people behind screens bully me into thinking I did the wrong thing," she concluded.
