We test the best hand sanitisers from mists to hospital grade ones

A YEAR ago I would never have thought of writing about hand sanitisers. But now we all know they are hugely important when it comes to our health.

Some can really sting your hands, but others do not contain enough alcohol. Today I look at hand sanitisers, and our Beauty Editor tests hand creams that combat dryness.

FRAGRANCED

  • Let’s Sanitise Scents, £4.99 for 50ml, letssanitise.com – buy here

The Let’s Sanitise Scents mist range comes in mixed berry, aloe vera, lavender, citrus, watermelon and, my favourite, peach.

The mists contain 75 per cent alcohol, are vegan-friendly and kill 99.99 per cent of bacteria and viruses. For every Scents bought, a bottle goes to charity.

HOSPITAL GRADE

  • Zidac’s hand-sanitising gel, £2.49 for 100ml, zidac.co.uk – buy here

Zidac’s hand-sanitising gel has been used by health workers. Now it is available directly to the public. It is made up of 78.2 per cent alcohol and kills 99.99 per cent of bacteria and viruses.

Aloe vera protects your hands and it has that lovely chemical smell, which reassures me. Not too drying.

HYDRATING

  • Margaret Dabbs, £12 for 30ml, margaretdabbs.co.uk – buy here

A 65 per cent alcohol hand gel that also contains hempseed oil, kelp and white-water lily to ensure hands are hydrated as well as sanitised.

Has a beautiful citrus fragrance and left my hands soft.

BUDGET

  • Apothecary Sleep hand cream, 75ml, £4, marksandspencer.com – buy here

Designed to moisturise your hands during the night, it combines lavender, jasmine and eucalyptus essential oils.

It has a strong aroma, so don’t go near it if you don’t like lavender. But I loved it. Rich without being greasy.

MID

  • Champneys softening hand cream, 125ml, £10, boots.com – buy here

A rich cream to nourish and condition hands and nails. Has SPF15 to protect skin from sun damage – which is important even in the winter months – to prevent tell-tale signs of ageing.

Smells gorgeous, with notes of mandarin and chamomile, and it softens dry hands.

LUNCH-BOXING

  • Elemis Pro-Radiance hand and nail cream, 100ml, £29, elemis.com – buy here

This has rare anti-ageing omega 7 as well as milk protein, avellana seed oil and macadamia seed oil to lock in moisture.

It absorbed into the skin completely, with no greasy residue. Improved my cuticles and soothed dry, chapped skin on my hands.
