We wanted to give our teenage son space but didn’t want him to move out so built him a tiny home in our garden | The Sun

A CRAFTY mum has shared how she built her teenage son a tiny home in the family's garden on a tight budget.

DIY fanatic Charlotte Jones took to Facebook to proudly reveal the jaw-dropping results of the project for her teenager.

In the post, which she had uploaded to the popular DIY On A Budget group on the platform, the mum explained: ''Wanted a space for our teenager to hang out but to be close by too!''

Rather than moving house or making a smaller extension – this, she said, would've been around £25k – they came up with a genius solution – to make the son a tiny home in their garden.

The overall project, she said, came to about £7.2k, which included the flooring, painting, lighting, electrician and the full build with insulation, windows and other bits.

She went on: ''If you know an electrician, it will be cheaper, as it was one of the most expensive things.''

We were quoted £10k for a new driveway so we revamped our old one for £300

Some of the items, such as bedding, were cheaper, as the mum had nabbed from the fast fashion retailer Shein.

The flooring, meanwhile, had been purchased from Trago Mills, where it cost the DIY fan around £6 per metre.

Although her partner was able to follow many tutorials on YouTube, Charlotte added that the flooring had been installed by ''wonderful carpet fitter'' who had done it for her.

During the process, the couple also wanted to add a kitchen unit – however, after being quoted an eye-watering £1.8k, they decided to make it themselves.

''That's beautiful, I could live in there myself! You have a very lucky teenager,'' said one fanatic.

''When the teenager moves out, can I move in, pls [sic],'' another wondered.

''How cool is that! His very own Shephard's Hut to hang out in. Brilliant job,'' someone else chimed in.

A fourth was just as stunned: ''That's amazing. Lucky son.''
