Zuhair Murad imagined his resort collection as the first stop of a Grand Tour, in the manner of wealthy young Europeans setting off to discover the continent.
Taking style cues from “The Queen’s Gambit,” the chess-themed Netflix series starring Anya Taylor-Joy, he offered up a collection that focused on bright tones and unrestrained movement, baring legs for minidresses, adding a sense of swing with circle skirts or offering gowns in filmy chiffon. Stylized flower motifs nodding to the Mary Quant-era were figured in the scalloped hemlines of jackets and tunics, or used as broderie anglaise on lightweight taffeta and vinyl.
For those who are In the market for the more embellished look Murad is known for, there were long chiffon numbers with graphic insets of lace and pleated vinyl; short-sleeved shift dresses with jeweled necklines, sleeves and pockets; sequined shift dresses with scatterings of rhinestones across the bust, and even a decadent gold showstopper gown that could outshine gilded palaces and disco balls alike.
