Kate Middleton ’s wardrobe is something every royal fan would love to take a peak in – but as spoilt for choice she must be, the Duchess is not technically allowed to wear whatever she would like.
There are many rules she must follow such as below the knee hem length and no bare shoulders, which actually rules out more fashion pieces than you think.
However, Kate, 40, has a clever little trick up her sleeve which means she can work around that issue and wear a lot of pieces from high end designers that may not have originally been modest enough for The Duchess.

The mother-of-three regularly tailors her pieces, removing certain aspects such as revealing necklines, open backs and sexy slits and instead adding longer hem lines to dresses and skirts to suit her regal wardrobe.
Anthony McGrath, senior lecturer at the Fashion Retail Academy, told Insider:"Kate enjoys adjusting outfits to suit current trends. She will quite often add a bow, remove a keyhole, or change the length of skirts or sleeves to make them her own.”
Who remembers Kate’s beautiful Alessandra Rich red frock she wore for the ‘A Berry Royal Christmas’ programme? Well turns out she actually removed the keyhole neckline and high slit from the dress and added a chic oversized pussy bow. We might actually like the altered version more!
Back in 2016, The Duchess wore a sheer polka dot dress by designer Saloni, which featured an open back. Kate loved the dress so much that her tailors added in a nude panel of fabric across the sheer bodice and closed the open back, just so she could wear it for a reception at Kensington Palace.
During a visit to the Family Action Charity in January 2019, she wore a beautiful olive green Beulah London midi dress. Kate opted to remove the fluted sleeves and add a belt instead, which completely elevated the look and made it look more conservative.
Kate loves tartan, and when she wore this gorgeous Emilia Wickstead frock, she made it very much her own. The dress originally featured sheer sleeves when it was first designed, but to wear it to The Queen’s lunch, Kate switched them for fitted ones for a more modest look.
It’s known that Kate Middleton takes her Wimbledon wardrobe very seriously so it was no surprise when she removed some unnecessary embellishment to this green Dolce & Gabbana frock in order to keep her look simple and chic.
