A baker has created an epic California-style burrito stuffed with juicy grilled beef, perfectly crispy fries and guacamole.

Morgan Hipworth, from Melbourne, shared a now viral TikTok video showing exactly how he created the Mexican-inspired dish at home.

California-style burritos are a popular go-to lunch or dinner option in San Diego, typically consisting of crunchy potato fries and carne asada, which is grilled beef.

To make the burrito, the 20-year-old used a beef flank steak, spice mix, potatoes, avocado, lemon, tomatoes, coriander, red onion, cheese, sour cream and tortilla wraps.

What you’ll need to make a California-style burrito

Beef flank steak

Spice mix

Potatoes

Avocado

Lemon

Tomatoes

Coriander

Red onion

Cheese

Sour cream

Tortilla wraps

Salt

He started by whipping up all the components – including the golden fries, tomato salsa and guacamole.

To make the fries, he peeled and sliced the potatoes into thick fries before placing them in a pot of salted water to parboil them.

Parboiling helps slash the cooking time in the deep fryer or oven – and ensure the fries are golden and crunchy on the outside, and super fluffy on the inside.

To make the carne asada, he sliced the beef into cubes and set them aside to marinate in the spice mix.

In a bowl, add the diced tomatoes, red onion, coriander, a pinch of salt, lemon juice and a drizzle of olive oil to create the pico de gallo, also known as salsa.

To make the guacamole, he mashed the avocado flesh in a bowl, and seasoned with a pinch of salt and lemon juice.

Once the potatoes are parboiled, Morgan placed them into a deep fryer and fried them until they are golden brown. This step can also be done in the oven.

Over high heat, he cooked the marinated beef in a skillet with oil for about five minutes for medium rare.

To assemble, Morgan layered the tortilla wrap with fries, followed by beef, salsa, cheese, guacamole and sour cream.

Finally, he folded the two side flaps towards the centre, but not all the way to the middle, then rolled the side of the tortilla with the filling away from him.

His video has since been viewed more than 400,000 times, with many saying they couldn’t wait to try out the recipe at home.
