“Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin” has been canceled at Peacock despite the fact the show was previously renewed for a second season.
The spinoff of the “Pitch Perfect” film franchise originally debuted on Peacock in November 2022 and was renewed in January 2023. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the decision was made to cancel the series as the ongoing strikes in Hollywood meant that production was not able to begin as originally scheduled.
The series saw Adam Devine return as Bumper Allen as he moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin. Along with Devine, the cast of Season 1 included Flula Borg, Sarah Hyland, Lera Abova and Jameela Jamil. Per NBCU, the series scored the biggest comedy premiere in Peacock history, as it was watched by more accounts in its launch weekend than any other Peacock Original comedy to date.
This is the latest instance of a strike-impacted series being canceled despite renewals in recent months. Amazon previously scrapped planned second seasons of its shows “A League of Their Own” and “The Peripheral” due to the strikes impacting their release schedules.
Megan Amram created “Bumper in Berlin” and served as executive producer and showrunner. Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman executive produced via Brownstone Productions, with Paul Brooks and Scott Neimeyer of Gold Circle Films and Devine also executive producing. Todd Strauss-Schulson directed the first two episodes and executive produced the series premiere. Richie Keen directed episodes three, four, and six and executive produced. Maureen Bharoocha directed episode five. Universal Television is the studio. Amram is currently under an overall deal with Universal Television.
Brownstone and Gold Circle produced all three films in the “Pitch Perfect” franchise, with Banks having directed “Pitch Perfect 2″ and appeared onscreen in all three films.
