A doctor has divided opinion online after saying he ‘doesn’t see how you could live in London on £100,000 a year’.
The 65 year old, who lives in the capital, was approached by a TikToker on the street who asked him questions about his finances.
It comes as a part of a series of street interviews by Emma, a money and budgeting app, who have sent their content creators out to ask Londoners how much they earn.
The TikTok has been seen by more than 3.1 million people, who have chimed in with their own opinions in the comments.
It began with the interviewer asking the man: ‘How old are you and what do you do?’

He replied that he is 65 and a doctor, which led her to question ‘Oh nice, how long have you been doing that for?’
The man said ‘Well since medical school, so for more than 40 years now’.
When the TikToker questioned ‘Do you mind sharing roughly how much you make doing that?,’ he revealed ‘Including my NHS work and my private work, about £600,000 a year’.
Surprised, she laughed and admitted ‘Usually our follow up question is do you feel like that’s enough to live in London’.
The doctor explained: ‘Do you know what, no matter how much money you make, it never feels like you’ve got enough to live in London’.
When asked how much he thinks the baseline is of what people need to earn to comfortably live in the capital, his answer shocked a lot of people.
The man said: ‘Most of my colleagues that aren’t doing private work, a doctor would earn about £100,000 a year.
‘They do not feel in any way comfortable, don’t see how you can live in the city under £100,000 a year’.

He also clarified that he’s not currently saving for anything as he has ‘quite a bit of savings’ and he ‘never’ usually talks about personal finance with his friends and family.
The video has sparked a debate in the comments on whether he’s right that it’s difficult to live on £100,000 in London.
One user wrote: ‘100k not enough???? Be so for real right now,’ meanwhile another said, ‘600000 a year he must be executive head of heart surgery for the entire UK’.
Another shocked Brit added: ‘Not him saying 600k isn’t enough while most ppl in London live on 25-50k’.
A supportive viewer chimed in with: ‘In my opinion it’s doctors that deserve to be paid millions each year, not footballers or influencers’.
Another clarified, ‘He said £100k isn’t enough in London, not £600k. Listen people,’ with others arguing back, ‘100k is still an astronomical amount of money’ and ‘Yeah we heard correctly’.
Someone penned ‘Me watching this, living in London on £30k,’ to which the TikToker responded, ‘It’s rough out here’.
One viewer even jokingly asked, ‘Is he single?,’ while another added: ‘I need to know what kind of doctor (for research purposes)’.
