From prim polka dots to soft summer pastels and even a dazzling metallic evening gown, there has been something curiously familiar about Holly Willoughby’s wardrobe.
Holly, 42, co-host of ITV’s This Morning, has spent the past few years giving herself something of a regal fashion makeover as she is spotted in dresses previously worn by members of our own Royal Family – and their cousins abroad.
The presenter appeared on the ITV breakfast show alongside her co-host Phillip Schofield, 61, this morning, but confirmed she would be leaving work earlier than usual.
Holly shared her excitement as she revealed she would be joining King Charles at the Palace so he can congratulate the winners of the Prince’s Trust Awards.
Fit for royalty: Holly Willoughby chose a delightful £720 lemon yellow dress by Beulah as she revealed she would be joining King Charles at Buckingham Palace
Twinning! Kate Middleton wore the same beautiful dress but in a delightful shade of pink to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in July 2021
A royal favourite: Crown Princess Mary of Denmark got in on the act, too, wearing the Beulah for the Willem-Alexander Children’s Hospital in June 21, 2022
For her royal day out, Holly chose a delightful £720 lemon yellow dress by Beulah, which has also been worn by Kate, the Princess of Wales, and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.
Kate, Mary and Holly have worn the ‘Ahana’ dress in a variety of colours,
It features a full skirt and tailored bodice, complete with belted waist and pretty button-front detailing.
She said: ‘I have put my posh dress on today because later on this afternoon I am heading to Buckingham Palace and there the King will be, and we will get to introduce the award winners to the King so he can say well done.’
Phillip quipped: ‘So you are off mid day-ish and I am holding the fort.’
To which Holly replied: ‘Yes you are, thank you very much.’
Princess Beatrice, the Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Mary of Denmark have worn other pieces by the British designer in recent months.
However, this is not the first time Holly has taken inspiration from our favourite royal women.
Her regal makeover started in 2018, when she slimmed down to a size 10 thanks to a diet and exercise overhaul.
Suddenly, the woman who admitted she was always ‘clueless’ about fashion — dressing in a series of safe, primary-coloured wrap dresses — became something of a style icon.
And her main role model? It seems to be the Princess of Wales.
Born less than a year apart, each with two sons and a daughter, they are both leading fashion influencers who can guarantee that anything they wear will become an instant sell-out.
When Kate wears a dress, brands can expect their sales to soar.
Joining the dots: The Princess of Wales and Holly share a love of polka dots. Kate’s ankle-length blue dress is by Alessandra Rich. A couple of years later, Holly shaved a few inches off the hem — and hundreds of pounds off the price — with this very similar dress by LK Bennett
A familiar pattern: Not one usually to opt for High Street fashion, a pregnant Meghan wore this Reiss mini dress to an International Women’s Day event. Later the same month, Holly wore a salmon-coloured version of the top on television
Compete with a pleat: Queen Letizia in an ombre skirt by Reiss. Holly wore a near-identical Phase Eight one
A copy-Kate? Gilty as charged! Kate stole the show in a gold Jenny Packham dress for the No Time To Die premiere. Holly wore the Sophie Couture dress to the Dancing On Ice final
Simple elegance: Kate wore this crepe wool Emilia Wickstead dress on a public engagement in New Delhi, India. Six years later, Holly wore a baby pink version to a TV awards bash
Colour code: Glamorous gowns from The Vampire’s Wife have become firm favourites with royals and celebrities. Kate wore a green one on a trip to Dublin. Holly went for festive red
But here’s one time she showed the royals the way to go! Lead role: Holly in red LK Bennett, May 2018, with Sweden’s Princess Sofia, June 2018, and Belgium’s Queen Matilde, July 2018, in the green
The same happens when Holly wears something on TV, releasing the details to her eight million followers on Instagram.
Eagle-eyed Holly followers have noticed that, just like Kate, she now likes to slip the odd designer outfit in among the High Street staples her stylist Dannii Whiteman selects for her to wear on This Morning, as well as the red carpet.
