Lamar Odom managed to drag ex-wife Khloé Kardashian into the 2022 Oscars drama, speculating they would still be together had he defended her the way Will Smith did Jada Pinkett Smith.
“Had I protected my wife versus mentally, emotionally and spiritually hurting her, I may still be married,” Odom, 42, wrote on Instagram Tuesday after Smith, 53, slapped Chris Rock over a joke about Pinkett Smith, 50, at Sunday’s awards show.
“He loves his wife,” the former NBA player added of the actor. “I do not condone violence against anyone. @willsmith loves @jadapinkettsmith I was told love covers a multitude of sins.”
Odom has confessed to many wrongdoings in the years since he and Kardashian, 37, separated, telling Us Weekly in 2017 that he had cheated throughout their marriage.
“Bitches and THOTs came out of the woodwork,” he explained at the time. “If there is one thing I regret when I was married, it was having multiple affairs with different women. That wasn’t the stand-up thing to do. I wish I could have kept my d–k in my pants.”
Odom wrote Tuesday that he believes Smith was simply attempting to be a good husband to Pinkett Smith even if the “King Richard” star went about it poorly.
“I see everyone arguing the merits of this altercation, taking side, dragging them both to hell when it all boils down to love,” he continued in his Instagram post. “He loves his wife. She was hurting, it is a husband’s responsibility to protect his wife. That is what he vowed to God and her, he owes us ZERO explanation as to why he chose to hit @chrisrock.”
While the athlete said he would not have hit Rock, 57, over a joke, he understands why Smith “did what a husband is called to do” — and that is, according to Odom, “protect his wife, from anything and anyone who causes her pain.”
Kardashian filed for divorce from Odom in December 2013 after four years of marriage, but she withdrew the papers after he was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel in October 2015. She helped him recover before resuming the divorce, which was finalized in December 2016.
Knowing how it feels to have a marriage dissected by the public, the ex-Laker — who just last month said he was trying his “damndest” to reconnect with Kardashian — called on fans to withhold their judgment over the Oscars spectacle.
“Last I checked we (the peanut gallery ?) do not have a heaven or hell to put anyone in. Same thing that makes you laugh will bring you to your knees. Sending good vibes only,” he concluded his post.
Smith apologized Monday for his “unacceptable and inexcusable” behavior, while Pinkett Smith called for “healing” Tuesday. Rock has yet to release a statement on the incident.
