My voice still hasn't broken at the age of 30 and I'm considering surgery

THOUGH I’m 30, my voice still hasn’t broken.

I even get mistaken for a woman on the phone sometimes.

I was bullied at school for my high voice and have never had a girlfriend. Women don’t see me as a real man.

I thought it might just happen late for me but I’m still waiting.

I went to see an ENT specialist but they found nothing wrong.

I know surgery is an option but I worry about the cost and the complications.

DEIDRE SAYS: Before you go under the knife, approach the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (asltip.com). An appointment will cost you, but far less than surgery.

Going under the knife isn’t something to take lightly, as there is always a risk of complications.

For example, the surgery you are considering – which involves injecting Botox into the vocal cords – can make you more susceptible to pneumonia.

So be sure to do your research before signing up to anything.

I am sending you my support pack Raising Self-Esteem to help.
