Oscars 2021 fashion: from bold, bright colours to golden glitz, here are the best-dressed stars

Last night saw the 93rd Academy Awards take place. And while the red carpet was much smaller, and social distancing measures were in place, the A-listers did not disappoint.

Hollywood’s elite took to the glamorous LA hotspot and pulled out their very best looks; from bold, bright colours to understated glam, they did not come to play.

Long trains, statement shoulders and sleeves to die for, here are some of our favourites…

Carey Mulligan

Embodying the golden Oscar’s statue through her Valentino sequin gown, Carey Mulligan oozed confidence and high-class sophistication with this dramatic dress.

And the best part? It came with pockets. And what’s better than a dress with pockets? There is nothing better than a dress with pockets. Go Carey!

Regina King

Now, this is how to command everyone’s attention.

Regina King has been ticking all of the style boxes this award season, but last night’s look was above and beyond our expectations.

Wowing in a flawless custom Louis Vuitton floor-length gown, Regina looked stunning as she posed up a storm for the cameras.

The pale blue dress was heavily embellished with diamantés and boasted the most amazing wing-inspired sleeves. We bow to you, Regina.

Maria Bakalova

Maria was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her hilarious role in the latest Borat movie.

And while she may not have won that trophy, she won in the style stakes with this gorgeous custom-made Louis Vuitton satin and tulle gown.

It is said that the skirt consists of over one hundred meters of tulle, so no wonder she radiated princess vibes.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried was a vision in red in this fit and flare Armani Privé gown. The colour, the style, the hair! *chefs kiss*

Amanda always manages to look so effortlessly chic as she floats down the red carpet and this time was definitely no different.

Emerald Fennell

Proving that pregnant or not, you can still bring your style game was Call The Midwife and The Crown star Emerald Fennell, who glided along the red carpet in this whimsical floral Gucci dress.

We’re obsessed.

Vanessa Kirby

Vanessa Kirby radiated elegance as she went from playing The Crown to taking it home with last night’s look.

This Gucci frock featured straight skirt but added drama with a dramatic train, and we can’t get enough.

Huge fan of the soft nude pink tone of the dress with the bold red lip, too – what a combination!

H.E.R

America singer and songwriter H.E.R wowed us in this powerful blue/purple ensemble that we cannot get enough of.

Wearing a lace sequin trouser and floor-length sari by designer label Dundas there is something so striking about the look. We adore.

Angela Bassett

A woman who is always at the top of her game is actress Angela Bassett. And last night she caught all of our attention with this oversized puff sleeve ensemble. Partnered with simple slick back hair, and cheeky thigh high split, we cannot get enough of this look.

The stunning dress is by designer Alberta Ferretti.

Laura Dern

For someone who usually goes for a more simplistic silhouette, Laura Dern upped her game with a fun feather dress by iconic designer Oscar de la Renta.

She kept it cool and chic as always by with monochrome colours.

Zendaya

If anyone could pull off one of the brightest neon colours seen on the carpet, it would be the brilliant Zendaya in this Valentino Haute Couture gown.

Keeping it simple in the floaty fabric, Zendaya opted for one of the biggest trends of the season, leaving her midriff on show. Gorgeous!

Olivia Colman

Olivia found herself watching the ceremony from London’s Oscar’s hub at the BFI London but this didn’t deter her from making a statement with her red carpet look.

Olivia opted to follow one of the biggest trends of the night with a vivid red Christian Dior Haute Couture belted dress.

Margot Robbie

Metallics can be a tough a look to pull off, but of course the beautiful Margot Robbie made it look so easy with this ditsy floral dress by Chanel.

Margot never disappoints with her award ceremony outfits, often opting for a more subtle approach but somehow still managing to pack a punch and find her way on the best dressed lists.

Andra Day

For someone who has only recently stepped into the world of acting, she made sure to start with a bang by portraying the iconic Billie Holiday.

And the star is clearly here to make a statement with her outfit too, wowing in a gold custom Vera Wang asymmetric dress.

The dress was made completely out of pieces of metal, with Andra managing to look cool and collected as she strutted down the carpet.

Leslie Odom Jr.

Not letting down the side for the men, Leslie Odom Jr. opted to channel the iconic golden statue with this impeccable gold head-to-toe tuxedo by Brioni.

Glenn Close

Last but not least, how could we not include the icon that is Glenn Close.

The actress, who has been nominated for a staggering eight Oscars, wore a fabulous blue embellished tunic which was teamed with a pair of tailored trousers and accessorised with some purple gloves (which are said to be a tribute to Georgio Armani’s mother.)

Even though we missed the hustle and bustle of the usual red carpet, we can definitely say that the stars didn’t mess around when it came to dressing to impress.

As quick as it came around, award season is over for another year and we already can’t wait for the next one.
