“El Señor de los Cielos” star Rafael Amaya has inked a multi-project deal with Telemundo Global Studios, committing to starring in various original productions. The Mexican entertainer’s first project is slated to premiere later this year. Amaya, a telenovela veteran, is one of the best-known actors in Spanish-language media.
“This deal reaffirms Telemundo’s commitment to working with the best talent in the business and to continue creating groundbreaking original content for Latinos across all platforms,” said Karen Barroeta, exec VP of production and development at Telemundo Global Studios.
Amaya first stepped into the Latin TV landscape in 2000. His breakout role was Aurelio Casillas in “El Señor de los Cielos,” the longest-running Telemundo Super Series franchise. The actor earned numerous accolades throughout the Emmy-winning drama’s seven seasons, including the outstanding achievement in Hispanic television award at the 15th Annual Hispanic Television Summit in 2017. He also appeared in “La Reina del Sur” opposite Kate del Castillo and guest-starred in USA Network’s English-language adaptation of “Queen of the South.” Amaya has also served as co-host of the Billboard Mexican Music Awards and the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
