Emmerdale fans are in for a treat next week, when one familiar face returns to the dales as a brand new villain, over twenty years since last appearing in the soap.
Actor Robert Beck will no doubt be a blast from the past for many viewers, after originally starring in the show for 78 episodes, when he played Bernice Blackstock’s love interest Gavin Ferris – who famously was caught kissing Jason Kirk amid his engagement to the B&B owner!
It has since been revealed however, that Robert will once again be returning to the ITV soap, but this time in a far grittier role as new villain Harry, who will debut on the show next week as part of a new storyline involving Nate Robinson, Caleb Miligan and newcomer Corey.
The storyline will begin to get underway this week, with Nate convincing his uncle Caleb to give him a job with newcomer Corey, an old friend of Nate's from school as a way to try and combat his financial woes.
However despite the promising business deal he appears to have got himself into, things soon take a nose dive when Corey encourages Nate to join him in making some extra cash on the side for businessman Harry – but it appears on the surface, that things may not be quite so squeaky clean and legitimate as Nate had originally hoped for.
Although most of the details about Harry have been kept under close wraps, one thing we do know plenty about, is actor Robert Beck’s life off screen, including his marriage to fellow soap star Jane Danson.
Here’s everything we know so far…
Early Life
Born on August 1st 1970, Robert Beck began his life in Chiswick London where he first discovered his love of acting at a young age.
Keen to purse a career in the arts, Robert soon turned his hand to television work, with a whole raft of impressive credits on his CV, including his very first on screen credit in the short film Pressing Engagement in 1992.
From there onwards Robert appeared in a number of popular shows, including guest roles in The X Files, The Bill, Judge John Deed and even Casualty over the years.
Soap Career
One running theme among his impressive credentials however, is just how many soaps Robert has actually managed to appear in during his career so far.
One of his first roles in fact was in Channel 4 soap Brookside back in 1993, before he later went on to appear in Emmerdale as Gavin Ferris, and even Coronation Street for 9 episodes back in 2008 as the character Jimmy Dockerson.
As if three soap roles wasn’t enough, Robert also returned to Channel 4 to take on the role of Fergus Collins in Hollyoaks back in 2021 – before returning to Emmerdale this year.
Fairytale Marriage
Away from the drama of his on screen personas, Robert is happily married to actress Jane Danson, who fans will no doubt recognise for playing Leanne Battersby in Coronation Street.
The adorable couple first met back in 1999 at the Soap Awards and later married in 2005, enjoying an intimate ceremony at a country hotel.
Previously speaking about Rob to OK! , Jane said: “Rob’s absolutely my best friend in the world. We’ve only had about two rows in twenty years. I’m not saying we don’t get on each other’s nerves sometimes but we’re a strong team and we’ve always allowed each other to be individuals.”
Reflecting on the first time they met, Rob added: “We met at the first ever Soap Awards back in 1999. I was in Emmerdale at the time. Jane came over and introduced herself.”
Jane then explained: “I’m not the world’s most confident person but I’d had a crush on Rob since I was 15, so I thought, I have to speak to him, it’s fate.”
Doting Dad
As well as being happily married, the couple also share two children, sons Harry and Sam who are always keen to cheer on their parents.
Although their idyllic life may seem perfect to fans at home, it hasn’t been without it’s fair dose of tragedy either, as the couple sadly lost their third child together, when Jane suffered a miscarriage at three months.
Jane previously spoke to OK! about her heartbreaking miscarriage, saying: “Sadly we lost our third child a few years ago – I found out I’d miscarried at the three-month scan.
“It was heartbreaking and it took us a long time to get over it – I don’t think you ever do.
“There will always be that sadness there and there’ll always be that desire, but we’re getting older now and the boys are growing up. Sometimes you just have to appreciate what you have.”
