Save your pocket and the planet on Earth Day with nearly new shoes

BUYING nearly new saves your pocket – and the planet.

Today is Earth Day and I want to flag up one eco-friendly business that is catering to this approach.

Sole Responsibility sells quality second-hand and ex-display footwear and trainers from top brands, at ebaystores.co.uk/soleresponsibility.

I asked the firm’s owner, Simon Payne, for his tips on nearly-new shoes . . .

CHECK THE DETAILS: Simon says: “All the footwear we sell is seconds, returned or ex-display stock that retailers are unable to offer as new in store or online.

“We save the product and sell you brands like Adidas, Nike and Converse at a discount.

“They are high-quality products that are perfectly wearable and will stand the test of time, but they may have some small marks or discolouration — all labelled and photographed on the descriptions of the products we sell.

“Always check the photos when buying.”

WATCH OUT FOR SCAMMERS: Simon says: “All our products are 100 per cent genuine, from fully traceable retailers in the UK.

“Counterfeit trainers are a huge problem and rob customers of quality.

“Use websites like scamadviser.com to check if a website is legitimate.

“Be aware of how long a website has been live and, if buying from auction sites, check the feedback.”

SHOP SMART: “With regard to resale value, it is difficult, as everyone has different taste and, as sneaker culture grows each year, value and desirability also grow.

“Some of the classic Nike and Adidas ones tend to hold the biggest value.

“Some limited-edition Nikes, like the Dunk SB Low Staple Pigeon by Jeff Staple, change hands for more than £25,000.”

EXTEND THEIR WEAR: “Try to avoid putting your trainers in the washing machine and tumble-dryer.

“Buy protectors, brushes and spot cleaners to keep your trainers looking their best.”
