Should I be applying blusher before foundation?

We’re always searching for new ways to improve our makeup skills, especially when it comes to creating a natural, fresh-faced look. Thankfully TikTok has come to the rescue once again, with a game-changing hack that claims to do just that.

Makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes claims it’s all about the order in which you apply your makeup products. Instead of applying your foundation first, followed by your blusher, Katie suggests doing it in reverse – and the results are surprisingly effective.

In a clip shared on the app with her 95K followers, Katie tells viewers to “layer the blush under the foundation for a really natural look.”

“Slap on loads of blush,” she says, while applying a mix of shades from Danessa Myricks’ Beauty Dewy Cheek & Lip Balm Palette, £22.10 here. Katie packs the colour onto the apple of her cheeks and along her cheekbones. “Don’t blend it too much,” she adds.

We’ll admit, at first it looks like the MUA has been scrimping on her SPF, as the look is VERY bright – but like many of TikTok’s makeup hacks, it’s all about trusting in the process.

Taking Makeup Forever’s HD Skin Foundation, £35 here, Katie applies the formula right on top of her blusher with a makeup brush. She then blends the two products together using gentle brush strokes and almost instantly her rouge cheeks transform into a radiant glow.

“Don’t panic, just put foundation over the top and it will look super natural and fresh and bright,” Katie says, while showing off the finished look to the camera.

The clip has attracted a lot of attention on TikTok, with many users praising the makeup artist on her game-changing hack.

“Omg this is like the best tip ever,” one fan writes.

“Love it,” another says, while a third adds: “Amazing! Love this technique as well. Truly looks like a beautiful, natural flushed cheek.”

“I would follow your makeup tips to the end of the world tbh,” another comments.

While Katie’s makeup hack has gone down a treat with her followers, some users aren’t as convinced, with one TikToker concerned over the application technique.

“My fear is pulling the blush all over my face. How do you avoid that,” one fan asks.

Offering some words of wisdom, Katie says it’s all about “being delicate when placing the foundation over the blush and not smearing, just pressing”.

We can’t wait to try this hack out for ourselves!
