Tomato ketchup can be used as an effective stain remover, according to a UK Facebook group which shares cleaning hacks.
To get started, simply shake the condiment on the dirty area and let it rest for up to 60 minutes.
It may not be the most common stain remover on the market but the results speak for themselves.
One member enthusiastically said: ‘Whoever came up with the tomato sauce tap hack, you’re a genius. Have tried everything, and nothing worked like this. No scrubbing, no effort. I’m blown away.’

Another added: ‘I just put it all around the base, left it overnight and rinsed it off and cleaned as normal. It was perfect,’
A third wrote: ‘OMG it’s amazing mine was terrible. Left it overnight,’ while a third added: ‘OMG, I haven’t heard of this before. I will be giving it a go tomorrow.’
The viral hack can also be used to clean common utensils such as pots and pans.
To get your kitchen appliances looking as good as new, rub a thin layer of red sauce on the surface of a dull or tarnished copper and stainless-steel pans.
After leaving it for 30 minutes, the acetic acid (a weak organic chemical that gives condiments a bitter taste) in the vinegar of the ketchup will react with the tarnish and remove it.
Copper pans tarnish because the copper combines with oxygen in the air to form copper oxide which is brown.
The acetic acid attacks the copper oxide, dissolving the brown layer and can then be wiped off with a soft cloth.
Stainless-steel pans often contain an inner core of copper sandwiched between the layers of steel on the bottom of the pan, to increase heat conductivity.
This tarnishes in the same way as pure copper and can also be cleaned with ketchup.
Ketchup is not the only product which can help you with house work over the winter months.
