Tyler Perry says he went from “killing it” in the gym to feeling like he’s starting all “over” again after gaining 12 pounds.
“I took this picture this past September around my 52nd birthday,” Perry captioned a mirror selfie shared to Instagram on Tuesday. “I was killing it in the gym. Right after that I tore my meniscus and was told I needed surgery.”
The producer added, “I’ve gained about 12 pounds since then. I was so close to my goal, but now I feel like I’m starting over.”
Perry then shared some words of encouragement, explaining how he’ll use the new year as a motivator.
“All of that to say, sometimes life will set you back, but as long as you have a breath in your body, you have to keep fighting,” he wrote.
“I’ll get it back when I recover. Happy New Year! Let’s get after it in 2022. Who’s with me?”
Many fans and friends appreciated Perry’s honesty, taking to the comments section to send love and support.
“I went through that very same thing twice but I’m back up and I’m going to get to my goal so will you Big Bro,” wrote ”American Idol” alum Fantasia Barrino.
“Lookin good my man,” Mario Lopez chimed in, with actor Nick Barrotta adding, “Let’s get it!! ???.”
“I’m with you,” a supportive fan commented. “Tore my meniscus last year and got back to working out this past July. Been working on me since then. Daily. We got this!!”
Perry also added the hashtag “#willsmiththebestshapeofmylife,” plugging Will Smith’s latest documentary that showed him attempt to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks.
