Space tourism has become a reality. The future of habiting in outer space is right around the corner. As billionaire businessmen such as Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos have taken a ride in their space stations to encourage space tourism, it was only a matter of time before people could vacation in style. Elon Musk’s SpaceX has plans to allow the general public to stay in the vehicle for a few days, circling the orbit of Earth and the moon before returning. With the excitement to travel in space, several corporations are working on making space hotels that create artificial gravity to let people enjoy a literal out-of-the-world experience.
The Voyager Space Station project will cost $200 billion, and the world’s first space hotel will feature every amenity available in a luxury hotel on Earth. The hotel is built on plans to attract tourists and scientists, and astronauts on long-distance missions to conduct their research. With a launch year set for 2027, let’s take a look at the world’s first space hotel, the Voyager Space Station.
Launching Ferris Wheel In Orbit
The plans to build the Voyager Space Station were first announced in 2019 by the California-based company Orbital Assembly Corporation. The initial plan was to launch the space station in 2025. However, the corporation had to push the project to 2027 due to the pandemic. As mentioned by Dogo News, the space hotel will take the shape of a Ferris wheel, which will have two rings connected by spokes. The inner circle of the structure will be docking stations, while the outer ring will include amenities such as rooms, bars, restaurants, gyms.

The primary purpose of the Orbital Assembly is to make people believe that the space construction industry is close by and not just a far-fetched dream. The space station will be 50,000 square-meter, and the construction is expected to begin in 2026. The Voyager will be located in the lower orbit of Earth which helps in resource harvesting, infrastructure, and development. The decrease in the launch costs has saved OAC a lot of finance used for the indoor safety of passengers.
New Outlook At Habitation
The Voyager Space Station will be solar-powered and spin at high speeds to provide ample artificial gravity for guests to have a comfortable stay. Once completed, it has room to accommodate 280 guests and 112 crew members at once, as stated by ArchDaily. The hotel is expected to have a true hotel-like ambiance that will feel normal, yet people could look at Earth from a distance.
The physics that goes into creating the 24 habitation modules is similar to spinning water in a bucket. While the bucket can spin in a circle, the water remains unmoving, which is the exact way, gravity will work on the space station. This way, the rooms will have showers and toilet facilities similar to the ones used on Earth. The Luxury Villa can be booked for a week, rented for a longer period, or purchased if wanted. These villas will feature cooking facilities, sleeping accommodations, and three bathrooms. The Hotel Suites also offer private bathrooms and sleeping accommodations for a cheaper price compared to the villas.
Apart from staying in, Voyager has plans to offer recreational activities that are not possible on Earth. OAC is considering conducting spacewalks where people can enjoy a crystal clear view of Earth and space. CEO of Orbital John Blincow also shared his interest in having an entertainment package where music artists like Sting can have a performance for entertainment. According to Architectural Digest, one of the most interesting proposed activities is basketball. In the Voyager, visitors can rise five times higher, which makes the game even more enjoyable. While the recreational activities and stay are appealing, weightlessness is far more intriguing to people than anything else.
Dream To Reality
There is nothing more important on Earth or Space than food. Voyager has plans to appoint top chefs from around the world to create food for the visitors. As the traditional space experience is an appealing factor, OAS has plans to offer the usual space food. The crew will be stocking the restaurant with the infamous freeze-dried ice cream and even Tang.
After the prototype is prepared, the modules of the Voyager Space Station will cost billions of dollars to be sent into space. The corporation has plans to recoup the expenses with the stay charges. It will reportedly cost $5 million for a three-and-a-half-day stay, as noted by Travel And Leisure. While the cost may seem expensive, it is cheaper than the $55 million charges at the International Space Station for a lengthy stay.
A space hotel with luxury villas and suites, the Voyager Space station will be an unforgettable experience once it is ready to launch. Gone are the days when people imagined sleeping in bags connected to the walls as a space experience. The Voyager is here with the technology to make space tourism happen. The OAC has already begun taking reservations for the 2027 journey on its official website.
