Bayern Munich 'want Sadio Mane as statement transfer and have already held talks with Liverpool star's agent'

BAYERN MUNICH are reportedly lining up a sensational bid for Liverpool star Sadio Mane.

The Bundesliga champions are said to want the superstar forward, 30, as a 'statement transfer' in the summer.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic held talks with Mane's agent over the weekend, according to Sky in Germany.

Negotiations between Liverpool and Bayern are yet to get underway, but it's understood they are keen on a move for the forward.

The report goes on to state contract discussions between the Reds and Mane are proving to be 'difficult'.

Mane has just one full season left on his current deal.

And the club prioritising an extension for Mohamed Salah, who's current deal expires at the same time as Mane's, is thought to have irked the Senegelase star.

Bayern chief Salihamidzic hinted at a big-name signing this summer when asked about the prospect following the weekend's 2-2 draw with Stuttgart:

He said: "Let yourself be surprised.

"We have to see what is possible and what is not. We have creative ideas."

Reports last week claimed Liverpool were planning to offer Mane an extension at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Focus at the moment continues to be the quest for an unprecedented quadruple – although Saturday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham has dented the prospect of a four-trophy season.

But his wage demands are in the region of £250,000-£300,000, according to 90min.

Mane himself is not actively seeking to leave Liverpool, but may be forced to consider his options if owners FSG do not match his terms.
