Borussia Dortmund want to bring Chelsea flop Timo Werner back to Germany in shock transfer two years after joining Blues

TIMO WERNER is a shock transfer target for Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.

The forward has struggled to find his best form since his £48million move to Stamford Bridge in 2020.

However, Sky Germany report Dortmund are considering a summer swoop.

There is no concrete offer on the table just yet as the German side weigh up their approach.

Werner was a major success in the Bundesliga.

He scored 13 goals in 95 appearances as he broke through at Stuttgart.

And then the 47-cap Germany international managed 78 in 127 for RB Leipzig, earning his switch to West London.

However, it has not quite worked out for him as planned in a Chelsea shirt with just seven goals in 46 Premier League run-outs so far.

Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz are preferred as the central striker while Thomas Tuchel has the likes of Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi to choose from in the wide areas.

Dortmund are well aware they could lose goal-machine Erling Haaland this summer when his release clause activates.

They also want an injection of pace and lightning-quick Werner could certainly add that to their side.

Plus his representative Volker Struth recently conducted the deal to sign Niklas Sule from Bayern Munich.

However, money could be an issue.

Because Chelsea paid £48m for him just two years ago, they would likely be unwilling to sell Werner for much less than that.

He is also on a reported wage of around £250,000 per week at Stamford Bridge so would need to take a pay cut – Marco Reus is Dortmund's current top earner on around £193,000 per week.

And a potential transfer – which Chelsea are said to be open to discussing – could also be dependent on the future of Karim Adeyemi.

Red Bull Salzburg striker Adeyemi is high on the Dortmund wish list.

But the Westfalenstadion giants want to pay £25m plus bonuses.

However, Salzburg are demanding more than £33m up front for the exciting 20-year-old who has already scored his first goal for Germany's senior side.
