Darts star David Pallett was forced to leave the WDF World Championships after his wife went into labour.
The 33-year-old was scheduled to start the action on Sunday (December 3) night against Thomas Junghans but their match was moved to the end of the evening after Pallett had left the venue.
He rushed out of Lakeside Country Club to be by his wife's side after he was permitted to leave the venue by the WDF to attend the birth of his child. Fans on social media were left confused over the rescheduling of his match as it was Suzanne Smith opening the action against Victoria Monaghan who became the first transgender woman to compete in the WDF Women's World Championships.

One fan on X (formerly Twitter) asked: "No explanation as to why?" before the official WDF Darts X page replied: "David's wife has gone into labour, so he's left the venue to attend the birth".
After finding out Pallett's predicament, one fan pointed the similarities between themselves and the darts player as they wrote: "My wife being pregnant and my first name being David made this funnier than it should've been, but thanks for the explanation. That will be an eventful day for him".

A second user said: "Crazy day for him" as credit to Pallett, he returned to the venue at the end of the night following the birth of his baby but couldn't cap off the special night with a win as he lost 2-0 to the Swiss Junghans.
Prior to his return to Lakeside, one hopeful fan placed a bet on the Englishman to triumph in Sunday's match after commenting: "David Pallett 4/9 to beat Junghans was 4/11. Wife just given birth today so match was rescheduled to last of the evening session. Still fancy him to have too much quality".
They certainly regretted the decision, calling his performance "pathetic" as they added: "Yeah that was utterly pathetic from pallett shouldn’t have touched him with a barge pole".
